The car rain and light sensor is a new generation of vehicle-mounted intelligent sensor that integrates an infrared rain sensor and an ambient light sensor. The vehicle can automatically control the front wipers and headlights through the rain and light sensor, replacing the original manual operation and greatly improving the safety and comfort of driving.

Rain Light Sensor
The rain and light sensor of a car is usually installed on the bracket where the rearview mirror and the windshield meet.
The rain sensor is an infrared optical system. The light-emitting component emits infrared rays. When the glass surface is dry, the light is almost 100% reflected back. When it rains, there will be rain on the windshield, and part of the light will deviate, causing the total amount of light received by the sensor to change. The more rain there is, the more reflected light is received. According to the change in the amount and speed of the reflected light that the infrared sensor can receive, the amount of rainfall is judged, and the working frequency of the wiper is adjusted.
The rain and light sensor can also sense the changes in light conditions outside the vehicle through the ambient light sensor. It can distinguish different driving conditions such as day, night, garages, and bridge tunnels, and help the vehicle automatically turn on or off the low beam and position lights according to changes in light and road conditions.

The following figure shows the working principle of the rainfall and light sensor. The red circle is the rainfall detection module, which consists of an infrared sensor (SA88010) and an ambient light sensor (SA88011); the green circle is the light condition detection module, which has a built-in ambient light sensor (SA88011).

Ambient light sensor
SA88011AS22-J00 is a silicon NPN planar phototransistor . It uses a transparent optical SMD2015 package, and the photosensitive test area of the chip is 0.19mm2. The sensing spectrum is similar to that of the human eye, and the sensitivity is leading in the industry.
