Functional description:
To have the same time of day for the entire plant, you can use time synchronization to synchronize the times of the plant components. One system component must act as a clock so that all components of the plant run at the same time. The component that acts as a clock is called the time master. The components that receive the time are called time slaves.
Time Synchronization Properties
When the PLC and HMI need time synchronization, the second-generation Basic Panel and Comfort Panel and S7--1200/1500 PLC time synchronization is used as an example to illustrate.
1. The second generation Basic Panel only supports the slave mode of time.
You also need to set the time zone on the screen, otherwise there will be a time difference when the time is displayed.
2. The Comfort Panel can be used in both master and slave modes.
You also need to set the time zone on the screen, otherwise there will be a time difference when the time is displayed.
Configuration restrictions:
The HMI device can define the time as a master or receive the time from the PLC as a slave.
In "Master mode", time synchronization is performed every time a connection is established.
In "slave mode", time synchronization is performed each time a connection is established and every 10 minutes thereafter.
The first time synchronization of the HMI device is performed immediately after runtime starts.
Time synchronization is only performed on the HMI device when Runtime is active.
If there are several connections between the touch screen device and a SIMATIC S7-1200 or S7-1500, only one connection can be configured as "slave".
If time synchronization has been enabled for a touch screen device as "slave", the "Date/Time PLC" global area pointer can no longer be used.
If you configure with a Basic Panel 2nd Generation, you cannot use time synchronization via NTP and the "Date/time PLC" area pointer at the same time.
Time synchronization with a SIMATIC S7-1200 (V1.0) controller is not possible.
The HMI device can only request the time from a PLC with the "Full protection" security type configuration if the correct "Access password" has been configured.
Configure the "Access password" for communication with a PLC with security type "Full protection" in the "Connections" editor on the HMI device.
This "Access Password" must match the password configured in the PLC. The PLC password is assigned in the PLC properties: "General" -> "Security".
