What does Industrial Ethernet mean?
Industrial Ethernet refers to the application of Ethernet-related components and technologies in automation control and process control in industrial environments. Industrial Ethernet uses TCP/IP protocol and is compatible with IEEE 802.3 standard, but adds its own unique protocol at the application layer.
Industrial Ethernet is an Ethernet technology for industrial control system applications. It is the application of Ethernet technology in the industrial field. It uses standardized physical layer, data link layer and network layer protocols to achieve high-speed, reliable and real-time data transmission and communication. It is suitable for industrial automation, process control, robot control, intelligent manufacturing and other fields. Compared with traditional industrial communication protocols, Industrial Ethernet has higher data transmission speed, stronger connectivity and scalability, and can connect different types of equipment and systems in the same network to improve production efficiency and management level.
The difference between industrial Ethernet and ordinary Ethernet
Industrial Ethernet: is a powerful area and unit network based on IEEE 802.3 (Ethernet). It provides a way to seamlessly integrate into the new multimedia world.
Ordinary Ethernet: It is a computer local area network technology. The IEEE 802.3 standard of the IEEE organization has formulated the technical standards of Ethernet, which stipulates the contents including the connection of the physical layer, electronic signals and the media access layer protocol.
The main differences between industrial Ethernet and ordinary Ethernet lie in application scenarios, reliability requirements, and protocol characteristics.
Different application scenarios Ordinary Ethernet is mainly used in business, home and office scenarios, while industrial Ethernet is mainly used in industrial control and automation fields, such as manufacturing, energy, transportation, etc. Industrial Ethernet usually needs to support a wider range of industrial protocols and real-time requirements, and can connect various types of sensors, actuators, controllers and other devices.
Different reliability requirements Industrial Ethernet needs to meet higher reliability requirements to ensure the stability and real-time performance of data transmission. In industrial application scenarios, it will face more stringent environmental conditions and noise interference, requiring stronger anti-interference capabilities and network redundancy mechanisms to ensure the reliability and continuity of data transmission.
Different protocol characteristics Industrial Ethernet usually adopts specific industrial protocols, such as Modbus TCP, Profinet, EtherCAT, etc. These protocols can meet the real-time, reliability and security requirements in industrial application scenarios. At the same time, Industrial Ethernet also supports common Ethernet protocols, such as TCP/IP and UDP, to achieve interconnection and communication with other networks. In short, compared with ordinary Ethernet, Industrial Ethernet has a wider range of application scenarios, higher reliability requirements and more protocol characteristics, which can support real-time data transmission and communication in the field of industrial control and automation.
