Launches new industrial-grade 3D-TLC SDHC and SDXC memory card product line
BRONSCHHOFEN, Switzerland, May 12, 2022 — Swissbit has expanded its industrial-grade SD and microSD memory card product line. The new S-55 and S-58 series are built with “high reliability” in mind and feature state-of-the-art technology, making them the first choice for demanding applications. Swissbit combines leading industrial-grade 3D TLC NAND technology with powerful controllers and firmware to achieve extremely high reliability. The SD and microSD cards range in capacity from 16 GB to 512 GB and support a wide temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. The new S-55 and S-58 series use Micron’s flash memory chips, while Swissbit’s existing S-50 and S-56 series use Kioxia’s 3D NAND. This provides Swissbit’s customers with great flexibility to choose the most suitable product for specific requirements and applications.
The new S-55 and S-58 series of SDHC/SDXC memory cards meet all requirements for applications such as data logging, IPC, HMI devices, POS/POI terminals, and medical and surveillance. For example, all memory cards in this series are designed for a temperature range of -40 ℃ to +85 ℃ and are protected from temperature fluctuations between read and write operations within this temperature range. This reduces maintenance intervals and reduces the total cost of ownership (TCO).
120-bit LDPC error correction, full page error protection, read disturbance management, background data refresh, data recovery after sudden power failure, and intelligent static and dynamic wear leveling all ensure the best reliability of the product. The molded SiP housing with gold contacts is also an important part of reliability, providing the best protection even in harsh environments, preventing high mechanical stress and environmental impact on the product.
Capacity and compatibility
The new series of memory cards comply with the SD-6.1 standard and support both the normal SPI interface mode and the UHS-I interface mode commonly used in embedded systems. They reach UHS Speed Grade U3, Speed Grade C10, Application Grade A2, and Video Speed Grade V30.
The S-55 is available in capacities ranging from 64 GB to 512 GB, and the microSD version, the S-55u, is available in capacities from 64 GB to 256 GB.
Of course, Swissbit will continue to offer the S-58 series in 3D pSLC mode, which is particularly suitable for applications that require a large number of small data blocks or sustained high workloads. The S-58 has a capacity of 16 GB to 128 GB, and the S-58u has a capacity of 16 GB to 64 GB. In addition, the pSLC version can provide up to 10 times the lifespan and up to 2 times the speed.
Long-term availability and NAND architecture selection
With the launch of the S-55 and S-58 series , Swissbit continues its commitment to providing extremely high-quality memory cards at competitive prices while ensuring long-term availability. Swissbit SD memory card products now have NAND flash memory from two strategic partners, Kioxia and Micron, which will further improve the long-term availability of the products. In addition to the new product series based on Micron 3D NAND, Swissbit will continue to offer S-50 and S-56 series memory cards equipped with Kioxia flash chips. Although the performance specifications and reliability of the two series are almost the same, the S-50/S-56 series can provide a minimum capacity of 4 GB. At the same time, this strategic adjustment will enable the company to ensure the ability to deliver at any time, allowing customers to fully respond to short-term market fluctuations.
With its extensive line of "high reliability" SD and microSD memory cards, Swissbit is able to offer its customers the widest range of options and ensure security in product planning, as well as an excellent opportunity to switch from traditional NAND technologies such as 2D MLC and SLC to the latest 3D TLC.
