Affected by the epidemic, although the global smartphone market shipments have decreased, a completely different scene has emerged in the smartwatch market. The latest report from market research firm Counterpoint shows that global smartwatch shipments in the third quarter of 2020 increased by 6% compared with the same period last year.
In terms of manufacturer rankings, Apple remains the market leader, with its share increasing by 2% over the previous year. The company's first mid-range smartwatch, Apple Watch SE, released this quarter has received widespread attention from the market. Huawei ranked second with a market share of 15%, thanks to the outstanding performance of its newly launched models (especially those for children). With the successful launch of Galaxy Watch 3, Samsung surpassed BBK (Imoo brand) this quarter and ranked third.
Senior analyst Sujeong Lim said in analyzing the market, "In terms of sales, Apple was far ahead with $2.3 billion, an increase of 18% year-on-year. Samsung stagnated in the first half of the year, attracting fewer high-end consumers than Apple, resulting in weak demand. However, with the launch of Galaxy Watch 3, Samsung rebounded in the third quarter, with sales increasing by 59% year-on-year."
In addition, by region, China successfully surpassed North America in the third quarter of 2020, becoming the region with the highest smartwatch shipments in the world, after lagging behind for 7 quarters.
According to previous reports, IDC released the quarterly tracking report on China's wearable device market in the third quarter of 2020. The report shows that the shipment volume of China's wearable device market in that quarter was 32.93 million units, a year-on-year increase of 15.3%.
Looking at the TOP5 manufacturer rankings, Huawei ranked first with 9.414 million units shipped and a market share of 28.6%; Xiaomi ranked second with 7.241 million units shipped in the quarter and a market share of 22%; Apple ranked third with 5.868 million units shipped and a market share of 17.8%.
