According to WCCFTECH, like AMD, Intel also attended Credit Suisse's annual technology conference, and Intel's CEO Bob Swan frankly admitted that he is no longer interested in pursuing a majority market share in CPUs because he believes that this is not conducive to the company's growth.

Bob Swan said focusing on 90% CPU market share was one reason Intel missed the transformation.

Just a few years ago, Intel had more than 90% of the x86 CPU market, with revenue of $59.4 billion for the full year 2017. Bob believes that this mentality of maintaining a majority share in CPUs has caused Intel to become complacent and miss some important opportunities. Bob even said that he tried to "destroy" this idea of having a 90% market share in CPUs. In addition, he hopes that Intel can have a 30% market share in the "all silicon" field.

A 30% TAM for all silicon means Intel not only has more room to grow, but also more diversification. As it develops its Nervana processors and Xe GPUs, the company appears well-positioned to capture market share in new markets.

This also means that Intel has no interest in defending its title as the CPU champion and will give space to AMD. Foreign media said this was one of the most candid conversations they had heard, and Bob also outlined his plan to make Intel a company that goes beyond CPUs.
