AUBURN HILLS, Michigan, Aug. 12, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Nexteer Automotive today announced the launch of the Modular Pinion Electric Power Steering (mPEPS) system, expanding the company's cost-effective, modular electric power steering system portfolio to include single and dual pinion electric power steering systems.
Cost-effective, flexible and scalable
Building on Nexteer’s existing industry-leading EPS building blocks, the modular pinion EPS system offers scalability, providing OEMs with cost and time benefits, including shorter development cycles and greater component reuse across vehicle platforms – all while still providing drivers with advanced safety and performance features, such as superior NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) performance.
The building block approach of Nexteer mPEPS also provides flexibility to meet the broad range of OEM requirements for advanced rack and pinion electric power steering systems and support the needs of all vehicle power types (electric vehicles, internal combustion engines, etc.) and various global markets.
"OEMs around the world and in China are looking to achieve cost and time efficiencies without sacrificing steering performance," said Robin Milavec, president, CTO, CSO and executive director of Nexteer Automotive. "With the introduction of mPEPS, Nexteer now offers a complete modular portfolio based on our industry-leading electric power steering system building blocks. This launch is well-timed to further capitalize on market growth in the Asia Pacific region and meet global industry demand for flexible, scalable and cost-effective solutions for electric, internal combustion and hybrid vehicle platforms."
Nexteer's complete modular portfolio of global electric power steering system solutions
Nexteer’s mPEPS is the company’s third modular steering product design, following the launch of the modular column electric power steering system (mCEPS) in October 2021 and the modular rack electric power steering system (mREPS) in April 2023.
In addition to the modular electric power steering system, Nexteer also offers a complete electric power steering system portfolio that can provide steering solutions for vehicles of all sizes, from small cars to heavy-duty pickup trucks and light commercial vehicles. Nexteer's other electric power steering system solutions include steer-by-wire, rack electric power steering (REPS), dual pinion electric power steering (DPEPS), single pinion electric power steering (SPEPS) and column electric power steering (CEPS).
Nexteer also offers high-output and high-availability options for all of its EPSS systems. High-output EPSS increases steering load capacity, allowing heavier vehicles such as electric vehicles and heavy-duty pickups to enjoy the advanced safety, comfort and fuel economy benefits of EPSS. High-availability EPSS ensures the steering safety net is always on through intelligent optimization software designed for synchronization, multi-path processing and hardware redundancy.
Nexteer is a global leader in electric power steering systems, serving more than 60 customers worldwide. In 2023, Nexteer's global production of electric power steering systems will exceed 100 million sets.
