"You are driving along a winding country road and it is impossible to see beyond the road ahead. Suddenly, your Volvo warns you that there is an accident ahead. As you calmly slow down and round the next bend when you see a crashed car in your driveway. Thanks to the warning, you are prepared and can proactively avoid risks on the road."

Volvo is currently launching a groundbreaking connected safety function in the European market, namely "Accident Ahead Alert". Since the English name of this function is abbreviated to three A's, it is referred to as the 3A early warning function. For the first time, the 3A function directly alerts drivers to forward accidents through real-time data from the traffic management center. In the Danish market, starting from 2016, Volvo 90, 60 and 40 series models are equipped with the "Forward Accident Alert" function. Now Volvo is cooperating with traffic management centers in other countries to promote this feature in the European market. This function is designed to immediately alert the driver of a traffic accident within a few hundred meters ahead, helping the driver avoid collisions and traffic jams caused by accidents ahead.

The driver can choose to activate this function on the central control screen, and the system will alert the driver of an accident ahead through the warning light on the instrument panel or the head-up display. Sound awesome? In the eyes of Chinese netizens, isn’t this function just the ahead accident warning on the Amap map? China has implemented it nationwide a few years ago, and AutoNavi can not only pinpoint which lane an accident occurred in, but can also tell the driver whether the car lying on the road broke down due to an accident or a malfunction... Volvo's technology is OUT !

If you really think so, it is superficial, because in addition to obtaining the accident location through the local traffic management center data network, this function can also automatically determine the accident through the vehicle. For example, if there is an accident ahead or the vehicle breaks down, the car owner will take out a triangle warning sign and place it on the back of the car. In the long-term automotive culture and traffic law education environment, European and American car owners have developed the habit of placing the warning sign as soon as possible after a vehicle accident or breakdown. habit. If a passing vehicle's ADAS camera sees the triangle on the ground, it will transmit the accident location to the traffic management center. At the same time, this information is shared with surrounding cars equipped with 3A warning functions - these cars are not necessarily all Volvo brands. However, the accident information on China's Amap map is either reported by human drivers or by traffic police when handling accidents, which is seriously behind in timeliness. Within a few minutes after the accident is released, you cannot expect to see the accident information on the Amap map.

Therefore, the real essence of Volvo 3A's technology is visual information processing and data sharing, but only necessary information will be shared with other cars, and the shared data will be anonymized. It can be seen from this that the difficulty of this technology lies in the standardization of 3A functional data. In other words, Volvo must convince other brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, BMW, Citroën, Renault, Honda, General Motors, and Fiat to accept their own data standards. Or call these car companies together to develop a data standardization plan. But if Volvo introduces this technology to China, I'm afraid it won't work, you know.
