Mouser Electronics now sells Microchip LAN8650 and LAN8651 single-pair Ethernet switches for automotive and industrial applications

November 27, 2023 – Mouser Electronics, a global authorized distributor of semiconductors and electronic components that focuses on introducing new products, will start selling Microchip Technology LAN8650 and LAN8651 industrial-grade single-pair Ethernet switches. The LAN865x family allows designers to connect 8-, 16- and 32-bit microcontrollers without built-in Ethernet media access control (MAC) to 10BASE-T1S single-pair Ethernet (SPE), allowing lower-speed devices to connect to the standard Ethernet, thereby simplifying the need for dedicated communications systems in automotive and industrial applications.

Microchip Technology's LAN8650 and LAN8651 single-pair Ethernet switches from Mouser combine a common standard Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) and MAC to interface with a variety of microcontrollers and utilize the OPEN Alliance 10BASE-T1x MAC-PHY Serial interface specification to transmit Ethernet packets. 10BASE-T1S is a new technology for extending Ethernet to business technology (OT) and information technology (IT) networks, even if these networks are composed of incompatible devices and different physical hardware, between workstation controllers and LAN8650 and LAN8651 transmit and receive data packets simultaneously.

The LAN8650 and LAN8651 devices also support time-sensitive networking (TSN), which enables synchronized timing between distant Ethernet networks, which is critical for many automotive applications such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The automotive-qualified LAN8650 and LAN8651 meet AEC-Q100 Grade 1 standards and are more stable and durable in harsh environments, including a wide operating temperature range of −40ºC to +125ºC. In addition, the LAN8650 and LAN8651 comply with functional safety standards and are designed for ISO 26262 applications.
