Recently, CARIAD, a software company under the Volkswagen Group, announced that it will select Qualcomm Technologies to provide system-on-chip (SoC) for CARIAD's software platform, aiming to achieve assisted driving and autonomous driving functions up to the L4 level.

According to reports, Qualcomm's Snapdragon Ride platform portfolio SoC will become an important hardware component of the CARIAD standardized scalable computing platform, designed to support Volkswagen Group's models to be launched around 2025.

Dirk Hilgenberg, CEO of CARIAD, said that the future connected autonomous vehicles will be high-performance computers on wheels, supported by extremely complex computing power. "With our autonomous driving solutions, CARIAD is committed to taking our customers' hands off the steering wheel in the future."

The fact that Volkswagen Group chose Qualcomm's Snapdragon Ride platform shows that this platform has advanced technology and hardware.

It is understood that the system has an open, scalable, and modular computer vision software stack, built on a 4nm system-on-chip (SoC), which can optimize the deployment of forward and surround cameras to the greatest extent and support advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving (AD).

It also supports functional safety/anticipated functional safety (SOTIF), which can meet the requirements of various features in most vehicle levels and types. The Snapdragon Ride vision system also provides a unique modular architecture, which brings expansion flexibility to automakers, enabling them to integrate map crowdsourcing, driver monitoring systems, parking systems, vehicle networking technology and positioning modules to support better customization.
