As one of the first automakers to use 811 batteries in mass-produced models, GAC has been keeping a fast pace in the application of new technologies. Recently, GAC Group announced that its graphene battery research and development work is ongoing and it is expected that this technology will be put into mass production testing by the end of this year.
GAC Group's graphene technology was announced at the GAC Technology Day in July this year. Officials said that based on the excellent conductivity and special three-dimensional structure of graphene, a super fast charging battery was developed, which can be fully charged to 80% in 8 minutes, and can be charged in 10 minutes with a range of 200-300 kilometers, which is comparable to refueling.
At present, GAC has preliminarily verified graphene technology from multiple levels including battery cells, modules and complete vehicles.
Graphene materials are mainly used in fast-charging lithium-ion batteries, supercapacitors, lithium-sulfur batteries, and lightweight body materials. However, the high cost has always been a barrier to mass production. GAC also said that whether graphene batteries can eventually be mass-produced still needs to wait for the results of actual vehicle verification.
