Recently, Tesla hacker @greentheonly said that Tesla may adopt 5G connection. At the same time, he also browsed the code updated after 2020.44 OTA and found that Tesla’s internal system will be compatible with 5G network.

In 2020.44, green also saw new firmware files for CYW89359. The CYW89359 combination solution is an embedded system solution launched by CYPRESS Semiconductor in 2018. It is also the industry's first solution to implement "Real-time Simultaneous Dual Band (RSDB)" technology to provide a complete in-vehicle connectivity solution.

"In the future, it may become a reality for all passengers to connect at once and transmit high-fidelity video and audio content to each person," CYPRESS described. Currently, the CYW89359 combination solution has also been fully put into production.

But when someone asked the hacker whether the 2021 new  Model 3  (  parameters  |  inquiry  ) had been upgraded with 5G equipment, Green said that the firmware in the Model 3 before the update was not "5G enabled." The resident hacker in the Tesla community also admitted that he personally had not seen the new Model 3.

Tesla is currently using the connectivity brought by the network for many applications, including the layout of future driverless in-car scenarios and the development of FSD. Tesla also stated as early as 2018 that it would introduce different levels of network connections and transfer more data function applications to paid subscription services. In the future, through the application of 5G networks, new premium space may be ushered in again.
