On May 8, according to foreign media reports, electric car manufacturer Tesla has applied for a patent for a new type of battery without tab electrodes, which is called "Cell with a Tabless Electrode". In the new patent application, Tesla explained the limitations of current batteries, that is, because tabs are additional components, they increase costs and also bring manufacturing challenges.
This new patent describes a new way to build batteries that avoids this problem.

Tesla's lead in the electric vehicle industry is largely due to the company's batteries, or more specifically, its battery chemistry.
Last year, Tesla's battery research partner, Jeff Dahn of Dalhousie University, and his team published test results of a new type of battery.
The battery is a lithium-ion battery that uses a new generation of "single crystal" NMC 532 cathode and a new advanced electrolyte that can enable electric vehicles to last for 1 million miles (about 1.61 million kilometers).
Tesla is reportedly producing its own batteries. The company aims to produce its own batteries using technology developed by its internal team and new technology recently acquired through the acquisition of Maxwell.
Earlier, foreign media reported that the company is working on its mysterious internal Roadrunner project. At present, the company has tested battery prototypes under this project. The company believes that it can mass-produce such batteries and use them in electric vehicles and stationary energy storage products.
