Ford recently applied for a new patent. The main content of the patent is that Ford has developed a new battery pack integration method for the pure electric version of F-150, so that the electric pickup truck can obtain a longer driving range and more flexible body size.
For pure electric vehicles, automobile companies usually integrate battery modules into a battery pack and install it between the front and rear axles. However, due to the heavy weight of the battery pack, it will cause a certain amount of pressure on the frame. Therefore, Ford applied for a patent to place the battery pack in the crossbeam of the frame. This not only makes the weight of the battery pack better distributed throughout the vehicle, but also adds support to the frame itself.
Ford claims that the crossbeam loading battery packs can make the electric pickup truck body longer. The larger the battery pack capacity that the vehicle can carry, the longer the vehicle's range. Another potential benefit is that it reduces noise and vibration during driving. Ford has previously released a preview video of the all-electric version of the F-150. According to previous reports, the all-electric version of the F-150 is planned to be produced at the Dearborn plant in Michigan, but the specific production time has not yet been disclosed.
