Navya collaborates with SK Telecom and ESMO to develop autonomous driving technology using 5G cellular networks

According to foreign media reports, Navya , a French developer of autonomous vehicles and smart shared mobility solutions, announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with two Korean ESMO companies and SK Telecom . The three parties will use South Korea's 5G cellular network to jointly develop autonomous driving technology.

Navya , ESMO and SK Telecom will work together to develop autonomous driving functions and systemsusing 5G cellular technology already deployed in South KoreaPark Jin-Hyo, Executive Vice President of SK Telecom , Jeong-Hun Kim, CEO of ESMO , and Étienne Hermite, CEO of Navya , met in Seoul to formally sign the new cooperation agreement.

Navya develops, manufactures and commercializes autonomous, driverless and electric vehicles that combine the highest levels of robotics, digitalization and driving technologies. The company has two autonomous vehicles: the AUTONOM SHUTTLE, launched in 2015 (more than 115 units sold and deployed in the United States, France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan and Australia), and the AUTONOM CAB, launched in November 2017 (soon to undergo its first road test). SK Telecom has led the development of mobile technology from 2G to 4G and is currently setting important milestones for the development of 5G. ESMO is a company specializing in the production of wiring harnesses for internal combustion engines and has recently entered the field of wiring harness systems for electric vehicles and lithium battery technology.

In this collaboration:

Navya will provide expertise in autonomous driving technology and R&D, integrating 5G network, regulatory and cloud computing functions.

2. ESMO will be responsible for the marketing of products and services, especially B2B and business-to-government (B2G) business, as well as the establishment of an automotive assembly line over a longer period of time. In addition, ESMO is also responsible for the design and localization of components and the establishment of a supervision platform;

3. SK Telecom will be responsible for providing supporting technical solutions for product marketing (especially B2B and B2G) and providing 5G autonomous driving infrastructure.

The three companies will work together to develop an autonomous vehicle platform focused on entertainment and infotainment systems.
