According to foreign media reports, Wind River announced that it will work with Airbiquity to integrate key technologies to develop an end-to-end software lifecycle management solution for connected cars and autonomous vehicles. The solution covers all areas from cars to the cloud and supports secure and intelligent software wireless updates (OTA) and data management. Wind River is a leader in providing Internet of Things (IoT) software for critical infrastructure, while Airbiquity is a leader in connected car services.
Proactive and proper management of a vehicle's software during its lifecycle is important to improve vehicle performance, maintain value, and address safety threats. Using OTA, automakers can securely transmit diagnostic and operational data and efficiently perform software updates to reduce recall costs and enable new vehicle features.
Wind River and Airbiquity will provide the automotive industry with an open and flexible OTA solution that combines market-leading software technology components and the expertise of both companies to create a comprehensive, interoperable, pre-validated OTA solution.
Wind River plans to offer a highly modular OTA update and software lifecycle management solution - Edge Sync, while Airbiquity will provide its OTAmatic™ solution, which includes OTA orchestration, activity management, software and data management, and a security framework based on Uptane. The combined solution of Edge Sync and OTAmatic is also applicable to multiple non-automotive IoT fields such as medical, industrial, aviation, military and telecommunications.
Edge Sync provides a market-leading performance solution that can quickly, securely and reliably update software and firmware to continuously improve automotive value and customer experience. In addition, the solution also has the technology to achieve minimum difference updates when performing OTA updates. Minimizing updates can reduce the allocation time and cost, update transmission time and memory required for automotive electronic control units (ECUs).
OTAmatic is an industry-leading multi-ECU OTA solution that orchestrates and automates vehicle software updates and data management securely from the cloud. OTAmatic provides a mature OTA service for highly sophisticated vehicles and devices, with policy and privacy controls, customized customer communications, multi-layered cybersecurity protections, and flexible deployment.
