China Energy Storage Network News: On January 4, Ye Ting, a full-time staff member of the Control Center of Nanjing Power Supply Company in Jiangsu Province, saw on the source-grid-load-storage low-carbon dispatching platform that the output of a unified dispatching unit of Nanjing Chemical Park Thermal Power Plant that had undergone clean emission transformation was 80%, while the other unit that had not been transformed and had high carbon emissions during production was almost fully discharged. She reported to the Jiangsu Electric Power Dispatching and Control Center and recommended to the power plant through the center to adjust the output of the two units. This can reduce carbon emissions by 112 tons a day. This is a specific practical work of the company using advanced technical means to build a new power system and promote social energy conservation and carbon reduction.

In 2021, Nanjing Power Supply Company will focus on achieving the "dual carbon" goals, accelerate the construction of a new urban-level power system with a leading policy environment, leading technological level, and leading value creation, promote the construction of Nanjing as an "ecological city" with high-quality development of the power grid, and create a "dual carbon" demonstration model.

Leading policy environment

Driving urban energy transformation

On November 8, 2021, the design plan of Xiaoqing Integrated Energy Station in Hexi Financial City passed the review. The station will be completed in 2023, and will meet the centralized power supply, cooling and heating needs of commercial and office buildings in Hexi Financial City, achieving high resource integration and interconnection of multiple energy sources.

The rapid advancement of the station's related work has benefited from policy support. In October 2021, the Nanjing Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government issued the "Nanjing 14th Five-Year Low-Carbon Development Plan", proposing to "support the development of regional integrated energy service stations centered on electricity and encourage the coordinated and complementary development of multiple energy sources". During the preparation stage of the "Plan", Nanjing Power Supply Company took the initiative to connect and put forward suggestions such as building an energy ecological system, which were included in the "Plan".

In the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan, Nanjing Power Supply Company promoted urban energy transformation based on mechanism construction, guided by policy breakthroughs, and driven by industrial development.

On the large screen of the carbon emission monitoring and management system in the general monitoring room of Lishui Tianshan Cement Company, the gas emissions from the chimneys at the head and tail of the kiln are clearly visible. On October 24, 2021, Nanjing Power Supply Company promoted the implementation of the customer-side comprehensive carbon management demonstration project to realize the monitoring and early warning of carbon emissions in the high-temperature calcination and other links of the company's cement production. The company produces about 1.5 million tons of cement clinker annually. "By real-time monitoring of carbon emissions in each link, it can help companies improve their processes and reduce carbon emissions." Chen Kun, key account manager of Nanjing Power Supply Company, introduced. If carbon capture technology is promoted and applied in the cement industry throughout Jiangsu Province, carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by about 50 million tons each year.

Leading technology level supports the integration and interaction of power generation, grid, load and storage

On September 16, 2021, the 500 kV Xuyi-Qiuteng line project obtained the consent of the Nanjing Municipal Government that the route cannot avoid the ecological protection red line and ecological control zone. The project has a transmission capacity of about 3 million kilowatts. After completion, it will meet the needs of ±800 kV Yanhuai UHV DC power transmission and large-scale new energy power generation and consumption in northern Jiangsu, alleviate the pressure on the western channel of Jiangsu Province's "North-to-South Power Transmission" during the winter when new energy is booming, and further increase the proportion of external electricity in Nanjing.

In 2021, Nanjing Power Supply Company adheres to the concept of large-scale urban power grid construction, and in view of the reality of large-scale renewable energy utilization "at the remote end", accelerates the planning and construction of power grid projects and increases the proportion of clean external electricity. While fully cooperating with the ±800 kV Baihetan-Jiangsu DC project, the company accelerates the implementation of key projects such as the capacity expansion of the 500 kV Dongshanqiao substation.

How to solve the problem of short-term power shortage in regions with rapid economic development and rapid growth in energy demand? Nanjing Power Supply Company has solved the problem by adjusting power supply on demand and using energy storage.

On October 1, 2021, a 220 kV reactive power compensation station using static synchronous compensator technology was put into operation in the Research and Innovation Park of Jiangbei New District. When the voltage is out of range, the station can stabilize the voltage within 5 milliseconds, raising the voltage qualification rate to 99.997%, ensuring the power supply quality requirements of surrounding scientific research institutes and high-tech production enterprises.

The company's other "solution" is the largest electrochemical energy storage power station under construction on the grid side in China, also located in the core area of Jiangbei. The station has a maximum charging and discharging power of 110,880 kilowatts and a storage capacity of 193,600 kWh. It can charge during low seasons and discharge during peak seasons, improving the interactive storage capacity of the grid.

Leading in value creation and promoting green urban development

At Nanjing Jiangxinzhou Wharf, the largest inland river pure electric cargo ship in China, built by Nanjing Power Supply Company and Jiangsu Ship Union New Energy Technology Company, has completed the installation of two 1,100 kVA mobile containerized lithium iron phosphate power battery packs and is waiting for sea trials. After being fully charged, this pure electric cargo ship can travel more than 200 kilometers.

At present, Nanjing has basically achieved full coverage of the shore power system in major ports along the river, with a total capacity of about 21,600 kilowatts. Taking Xinshengwei Port as an example, the shore power consumption of the terminal reached 600,000 kWh in 2021, which is equivalent to reducing fuel consumption by about 350,000 liters, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 600 tons, nitrogen dioxide by 18 tons, and nitrogen oxides by 9 tons, saving more than 25% energy compared with using diesel generators.

New progress has also been made in the construction of new energy vehicle charging piles. On May 18, 2021, the Nanjing Electric Vehicle Geek Space Jiangning Station was put into operation. The urban area of Nanjing has formed a new urban charging network with two smart charging comprehensive service stations in the south and the north as the convergence points, including 152 charging and swapping stations and 1,858 charging piles, allowing new energy vehicle owners to charge in the urban area in 10 minutes. Both charging stations use bidirectional charging and discharging technology, and when necessary, new energy vehicles can be used as power sources to supply electricity to the power grid.

In March 2021, Nanjing Power Supply Company, relying on the "Online State Grid" APP, embedded the charging pile application into the car purchase process, realizing the "car purchase-pile installation-power connection" online processing. The company also strives to include the battery swap station project in Nanjing's "14th Five-Year Plan" electric vehicle charging and swapping infrastructure planning, and create a new energy vehicle service ecosystem through the scientific compilation of the planning network and the innovative integration service network.
