On May 25, State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd. officially launched the construction of the country's first provincial holographic power grid. By collecting physical data of the province's high-voltage overhead transmission lines, it built a digital power grid and comprehensively improved the level of smart operation and maintenance of the power grid. According to preliminary estimates, after the construction of the digital holographic power grid, the cost of Jiangsu power grid operation and maintenance will be reduced by more than 200 million yuan each year.
"In layman's terms, a holographic power grid is a high-precision three-dimensional digital sandbox of a real power grid that can contain all the power transmission and transformation facilities in operation. At this stage, our holographic power grid has achieved centimeter-level accuracy, and even the change of a screw can be accurately detected." said Zhai Xuefeng, deputy general manager and chief engineer of Jiangsu Fangtian Electric Power Technology Co., Ltd.
According to reports, the holographic power grid can upgrade the existing two-dimensional power grid map into a three-dimensional form, accurately simulating and reproducing the terrain, landforms, and objects in the substations, towers, wires, and line corridors. Based on the holographic power grid technology, the new power grid in the future can achieve full intelligent management and control from planning and design to construction and completion acceptance. Especially in the operation and maintenance of the power grid, it can be realized that drones can replace manual inspections on a large scale, and the inspection efficiency can be increased by about 6 times.
At present, relevant technical personnel of State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power are using multi-rotor drones equipped with three-dimensional laser radars to comprehensively scan the 500 kV and above overhead transmission lines of the Jiangsu power grid and establish high-precision three-dimensional stereo models. "The three-dimensional point cloud obtained by drone laser scanning, combined with data sources such as high-precision remote sensing orthophotos, digital elevation models, and oblique photography three-dimensional models, will establish a holographic three-dimensional digital power grid with multi-source data fusion." Wang Hongxing, head of the UAV Inspection Technology Service Center of Fangtian Company, the project implementation unit, said, "We will conduct laser holographic scanning of all 500 kV and above high-voltage overhead transmission lines in the province, and the scale of the holographic power grid will reach 14,000 kilometers within the year. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the holographic construction of the power grid for all transmission lines will be completed, and the total scale will exceed 90,000 kilometers."
It is worth mentioning that the construction of a digital holographic power grid will also simultaneously leverage the development of related new technologies such as drones, 5G communications, autonomous driving, energy storage and charging, and drive the market size of upstream and downstream industries such as equipment manufacturing, artificial intelligence, remote sensing and mapping, and data services to reach hundreds of billions of yuan.
