Recently, the first fully underground substation put into use in Hebei Province, the 110 kV Tabei main substation of the first phase of Shijiazhuang Metro Line 3, which was designed by Hebei Institute, was successfully put into operation, setting a precedent for the construction of underground substations in Hebei Province.

The Tabei 110 kV main substation is an underground three-story double-column three-span reinforced concrete frame-shear structure with a total length of 87.9 meters, a total width of 25.8 meters in the standard section, a maximum depth of -22.70 meters, and a total of 2 sets of outdoor wind pavilions. The commissioning of the Tabei 110 kV main substation has laid a solid foundation for the smooth realization of the "electrical access" goal of Shijiazhuang Metro Line 3 and its full opening and operation.

The design of this underground substation is difficult, the equipment installation requires high precision, and the construction period is tight. The design team of Hebei Institute has always been working hard on the front line and providing front-line services from civil construction to the peak of installation to delivery and use. They have optimized the structural layout plan many times, and successfully completed the explosion-proof and venting of the underground substation, the accident oil pool, and the fire protection and ventilation system layout. In cooperation with the construction unit, they have successfully solved many difficult problems such as the underground large-size air duct, bridge pipe layout, and explosion-proof valve construction technology, saving project costs. The meticulous and thoughtful service and excellent technical level have been praised in letters from the owner.

At present, land resources in urban areas of major cities are scarce, and residents' requirements for the environment are constantly increasing. Underground substations have significant advantages in saving land resources, improving urban environment, and coordinating urban construction planning while realizing their functions. It is a development trend in substation construction. The successful completion of the design of the Tabei 110 kV main substation witnessed the persistence and pursuit of the people of Hebei Institute to stay true to their original aspirations, take on important responsibilities, and focus on innovation and efficiency. It also accumulated valuable experience for the institute to carry out underground substation design-related business in the future, and provided positive support for the innovative development of enterprises.
