China Energy Storage Network: In May 2018, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out at the National Ecological and Environmental Protection Conference that "ecological civilization construction is a fundamental issue concerning the sustainable development of the Chinese nation."
Over the past 70 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the exploration and vigorous practice of ecological civilization construction is based on the continuous evolution of the concept of ecological civilization. With the accelerated advancement of economic development and industrialization, my country has embarked on a path of ecological civilization construction with Chinese characteristics. Over the years, State Grid Corporation of China has actively implemented the deployment of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, vigorously advocated the use of clean energy in the fields of industry, agriculture, construction, transportation, etc., promoted the use of electricity instead of coal and oil, and increased the proportion of electricity in terminal energy consumption, which has effectively promoted the transformation of the entire process of energy development and utilization to clean, low-carbon and efficient.
At the beginning of this year, the company proposed the strategic goal of "three types and two networks, world-class", continued to promote the revolution in energy production and consumption, built a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy system, helped build a green and environmentally friendly production and lifestyle, and took practical actions to protect the blue sky, green mountains and green waters, and make people's lives better.
Energy production is getting cleaner
From 0:00 on June 9, 2019 to 24:00 on June 23, Qinghai Province used clean energy for 15 consecutive days, achieving 360 hours of zero electricity emissions. Data shows that during the "Green Electricity 15 Days", the cumulative clean energy supply was 2.839 billion kWh, equivalent to reducing standard coal consumption by 1.29 million tons and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 2.32 million tons, once again breaking the world record for all-clean energy power supply.
In recent years, under the guidance of the national energy strategy and driven by policies, my country's new energy power generation has grown from nothing to something, from a small amount to a large amount. Not only has the installed capacity of hydropower, photovoltaic power generation, and wind power ranked first in the world for several consecutive years, but the power generation and grid connection technology has also reached the international advanced level. By the end of 2018, my country's clean energy power generation installed capacity reached 760 million kilowatts, accounting for 39.8% of the total installed capacity, which is 4,750 times that of 1949. The clean and efficient supply structure is increasingly optimized, and the energy conservation and emission reduction effects are remarkable.
In 2018, my country's clean energy generation reached 2.1 trillion kWh, an increase of nearly 2,956 times and 45 times compared with 1949 and 1978 respectively, accounting for 29.6% of the total power generation, ranking first in the world.
The large-scale development and utilization of renewable energy has put forward higher requirements for the power system. The increase in the proportion of new energy power generation and consumption is inseparable from a safe, green, efficient and highly balanced power grid.
In recent years, the company has conscientiously implemented a series of national policies and measures to promote the consumption of new energy and improve the comprehensive energy utilization rate, and coordinated the organic connection between power sources, power grids and markets. As of the end of September 2019, the company has completed the "10 cross-connection and 10 straight-line" ultra-high voltage inter-provincial and inter-regional power transmission project, which has comprehensively improved the clean energy consumption and transmission capacity.
At the same time, the company has built a national Beijing power trading platform and 27 provincial power trading platforms, providing technical support for the large-scale consumption of new energy. Relying on the large platform, in 2018, the company completed 71.8 billion kWh of new energy inter-provincial transactions in its operating area, a year-on-year increase of 45.8%; in addition, the trading platform also set up a special market for inter-provincial power generation rights transactions, vigorously promoted clean energy to replace conventional energy, and completed 31.8 billion kWh of inter-provincial clean energy power generation rights transactions throughout the year, doubling year-on-year.
Through new mechanisms such as cross-provincial spot trading and peak-shaving auxiliary service markets, the company has explored a new way to consume clean energy in a market-oriented manner and accumulated experience for optimizing the allocation of clean energy on a larger scale.
Energy consumption is becoming greener
Electricity has always played an important role in the adjustment and transformation of energy structure. Implementing electricity substitution and increasing the proportion of electricity in terminal energy consumption are of great significance to promoting the energy consumption revolution, implementing the national energy strategy, promoting the development of clean energy, and helping to build a beautiful China.
As early as ten years ago, the company had begun exploring electricity substitution technologies and implemented a number of electricity substitution projects in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian and other places, achieving very good results.
Statistics show that during the 12th Five-Year Plan period, the company completed 31,000 electricity replacement projects and replaced 140 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, bringing the proportion of electricity in terminal energy consumption to 24.13%, equivalent to reducing coal consumption by 24 million tons and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 60 million tons, effectively improving my country's electrification level.
In 2017, the company officially issued the "13th Five-Year Plan for Electricity Substitution", which systematically arranged the electricity substitution work and determined the electricity substitution targets and key tasks by region and field. In accordance with the company's unified deployment, all provincial companies have formulated implementation plans for promoting electricity substitution, clarified key substitution fields and stage targets, and promoted them in an orderly manner.
The company vigorously promotes clean heating, and promotes electric energy substitution in energy-consuming areas such as airports, ports, newly built scenic spots, and machine well irrigation, and has built a unified and convenient vehicle and ship networking operation service platform... At present, electric energy substitution has become an important means for my country to prevent and control air pollution, improve environmental quality, and adjust the energy structure.
In addition, the company has fully utilized the platform attributes, connected the entire power grid industry chain, united upstream and downstream enterprises, gathered green development forces, and jointly built a green industry. The company also gave priority to purchasing high-efficiency and environmentally friendly products, promoted the power equipment industry to improve energy conservation and environmental protection levels and localization rates, and jointly developed UHV key equipment with power equipment manufacturers to develop energy-saving and environmentally friendly technologies.
Grid planning and construction are becoming more environmentally friendly
In 2014, the Qinghai-Tibet Power Grid Project won the Ecological Protection Award at the 8th China Environmental Award. "The messenger of light galloping across the plateau, the ecological army trekking through the heavenly road, pulsating the lifeline of energy, not disturbing the ancient tranquility, building an ecological defense line, guarding the original face, the highest altitude power corridor, and a green model on the roof of the world." - This was the evaluation of the project by the organizing committee that year.
As early as the project planning stage, a number of measures to protect plateau vegetation and the living environment of wild animals have been taken into consideration; the Sichuan-Tibet interconnection project spans the Jinsha River five times, and the last two spans are only to bypass the Zhubalong Nature Reserve; in order to leave the best scenery of the Midui Glacier to future generations, the Tibet-China interconnection project will build power lines on steep cliffs... These are all vivid examples of power builders practicing green development.
State Grid starts construction of tens of thousands of kilometers of 110 (66) kV and above transmission and transformation lines each year, crossing different ecosystems such as mountains, jungles, meadows, wetlands, and deserts. The company takes appropriate measures and implements reasonable policies according to local conditions, and selects targeted green construction plans based on different environmental conditions.
Reducing project land occupation and saving land resources is another achievement of the application of green construction technology. According to incomplete statistics, since 2011, the company's new power transmission and transformation projects have saved more than 1.59 million mu of land. The application of a series of green construction technologies has enabled the company's new substations to save nearly 80% of water over their entire life cycle, saving nearly 1 million cubic meters of water each year. In terms of saving materials, through a number of technical optimizations in the construction of substations and line towers, nearly 8,000 tons of copper and more than 30,000 tons of steel are saved each year.
