In May 1952, the first substation in Fujian Province, the 35 kV Sanchajie Substation in Fuzhou, was put into operation.

In February 1980, the 110 kV Putian-Quanzhou transmission project was put into operation, and the northern Fujian power grid and the southwestern Fujian power grid were interconnected, marking the formation of a unified power grid in Fujian.

In 1983, the 220 kV Yongxia Line (Yong'an-Zhangping) section was completed, and the 110 kV electromagnetic large ring network was formed in Fujian Province for the first time.

In June 1994, the 220 kV Yong'an-Zhangping II line was put into operation, and the 220 kV main grid in Fujian Province achieved double-ring operation.

In March 1998, the 500 kV Shuikou-Quanzhou transmission and transformation project was put into operation, and the Fujian power grid entered the ultra-high voltage era.

In November 2001, Fujian Power Grid was connected to the East China Power Grid through the 500 kV Fuzhou substation and the Fuzhou-Jinhua Shuanglong I line.

In December 2009, the 5041 switch of Long (Yan) San (Ming) Ⅰ line of the 500 kV Longyan substation was successfully closed, and the Fujian power grid realized a 500 kV large ring network throughout the province.

In December 2014, the 1,000 kV Zhejiang North-Fuzhou UHV AC transmission and transformation project was put into operation, and the Fujian power grid entered the UHV era.

On December 17, 2015, the ±320 kV Xiamen Flexible DC Transmission Technology Demonstration Project was put into operation. At that time, it was the world's highest voltage level, largest transmission capacity, and the first flexible DC transmission project to use true two-stage wiring.

The 500 kV Fujian Tonggang Substation was put into operation in May 2019. The substation uses the remote "one-button sequential control" operation of the control system to start power transmission.
