What? Microsoft deliberately lets you install pirated software! [Copy link]

Recently, Academician Ni Guangnan of the Chinese Academy of Engineering expressed his unique views in an interview with the media, which triggered heated discussions among netizens.

Ni Guangnan said that in the Chinese market, piracy is basically done intentionally by manufacturers, and Microsoft deliberately gives you pirated versions. Starting from Win7, Microsoft has allowed you to install pirated versions. The ID of pirated versions is one ID. Of course, Microsoft knows who has installed pirated versions and who has not. It allows you to install pirated versions because domestic products cannot get up, and it would rather not charge you for using this software.

He said, strictly speaking, (Windows piracy) is not piracy, it is a strategy of Microsoft. Internet companies never say you are piracy, do you say APP is piracy? You install it, I hope you install it. Because its charging is not for the software itself. Strictly speaking, Microsoft is unreasonable. Microsoft obviously deliberately gave pirated software to Chinese users for free, so that Chinese people have no chance to develop their own operating system, and then they say Chinese people are piracy and thieves.

"Internet companies' APPs are free for users to use, and no Internet company says Chinese users are thieves." Ni Guangnan said.

What are your views and opinions on this? Welcome to post a discussion.

The discussion is very heated. Recently, our company has received many lawyers' letters about pirated software.  Details Published on 2019-1-23 16:49

Um... I think it has no obligation and must be free. Whether Microsoft makes it free or not depends on Microsoft's own policies and strategies.

It would be better to develop your own system if you have the chance. China is being squeezed too hard.

Even if Microsoft lets you use the system “for free”, can you still blame Microsoft for not having its own operating system?

Although it sounds awkward, it is possible that this strategy does exist. It may not be targeted at China, but at everyone. While charging fees, they condone piracy. While making money, they can also increase their market share. If strong anti-piracy measures are used, part of the market may fall into the hands of potential competitors. I wonder if anyone has read the instructions in the Quartus cracker

I think what Mr. Ni Guangnan said is right. Microsoft is indeed taking advantage of the situation. If Microsoft is strict in cracking down on piracy, at least Linux will flourish, and Microsoft may not have a chance to survive!

Isn't it a strategy of Microsoft to allow pirated software to be installed in other countries such as Brazil, India, Russia, Vietnam, etc.?

Generally speaking, there are two strategies. One is the United States and Western developed countries, but the domestic situation in the United States is stricter. The other is all countries and regions outside of China.  Details Published on 2019-1-4 15:18

This statement was popular in the 1990s, and it has been more than 20 years. If you still mention it now, it is like digging an ancient tomb... In fact, if you think about it, you should know that this is a helpless countermeasure. Since you can't get money, you just want market share, and then ask for fees from the "big money owner" with market share. In that year (also in the mid-1990s), Kingsoft Software launched the paid Pangu word processing system against the background of massive piracy of WPS, which almost put the company in a desperate situation. Later, Kingsoft had to allow piracy and then make it free. Like Microsoft, it only charges and provides services to the government and large enterprises. It is impossible to become big, but it is okay to survive. I have personally purchased Kingsoft's software many times, completely out of support for entrepreneurs with their own intellectual property rights. As a result, I bought it and it was free right after I bought it. Although it is somewhat unhappy, it is completely understandable. In the past ten years, almost all the software in my computer is purchased and free software, and the cumulative expenditure on purchasing software has reached five figures.

That's not true! Commercial Linux charges service fees or technical update service fees. If you do it yourself, it's also free.  Details Published on 2019-1-6 22:16

In fact, most people use genuine systems, or have already purchased the system. Most computers come with genuine Windows. Why do you accuse me of using pirated software? I rarely use pirated software. If there is an open source alternative, I will choose open source software.

Can you tell me which software you are using is genuine and which is pirated? Are you sure that the operating system you are using is genuine? How many CAD software are you using are genuine? Can you give me a reference? Thank you!  Details Published on 2019-1-11 10:28

I suggest you study the rules of shared software and then go to the official Linux forum to check out the rules of the industry. In a legal society, there are detailed legal provisions on the commercial use of shared software. Don't generalize. "Services" should also be distinguished. What are services? I'm afraid it's not what many Chinese people understand.  Details Published on 2019-1-6 23:54

I think Microsoft's strategy is for the whole world, not just for a certain country. Microsoft considers its overall strategy. We are just a part of this strategic squeeze. In addition, if we build our own system and let the market solve it, only a few large companies can afford the losses in the early stage.

It's not intentional, it's just turning a blind eye. It doesn't seem to be targeting China, it's just a business strategy.

You don't have to question it. I'm a software developer. The compiler development environment is either open source or community version. There is no such thing as genuine or pirated version. I don't use CAD, KEIL, IAR or anything like that.  Details Published on 2019-1-11 12:06
