On May 13, 2019, the largest 750 kV smart substation in China, the Xi'an North (Jingwei) 750 kV substation, was successfully put into operation, marking the full operation of the 750 kV second transmission channel project from northern Shaanxi to Guanzhong in Shaanxi Province. The project starts from Jingbian, Yulin, and ends at Gaoling, Xi'an. The project newly builds 2 750 kV lines and 15 supporting 330 kV lines, with a total length of 1,269 kilometers, passing through 6 cities and 23 districts and counties including Yulin, Yan'an, Tongchuan, Xianyang, Weinan, and Xi'an; 3 new 750 kV substations and 4 expanded 750 kV substations, with an additional substation capacity of 8,400 MVA, is the strongest network ultra-high voltage transmission and transformation project with the highest investment, largest construction scale, and longest transmission distance in our province.
The commissioning of the project further optimizes the main grid structure of our province's power grid. The 750 kV power grid will be upgraded from "one vertical single ring" to "two vertical double ring" backbone grid; it will promote the delivery of large-scale thermal power and new energy in northern Shaanxi. The power transmission capacity of the two transmission channels from northern Shaanxi to Guanzhong will be increased from 2.3 million kilowatts to 6.5 million kilowatts, which will continue to meet the rapid growth of power demand in Guanzhong and southern Shaanxi. It is of great significance to reduce the power coal in Guanzhong, control pollution and reduce haze, and further enhance the "North Power South Supply" capacity of Shaanxi Province and expand the scale of "Shaanxi Power Delivery".
