"Gree Electric will not be absent in the process of vigorously promoting the ubiquitous power Internet of Things and smart grids." Dong Mingzhu, a deputy to the National People's Congress and chairman of Gree Electric, could not wait to answer the reporter's question. The aloof "Ms. Dong" started with this topic, leaning forward with a smile on her face.

Dong Mingzhu, Yang Yuanqing, Lei Jun, Zhou Hongyi, Yang Hua and other bigwigs in the energy and Internet fields were already stirring up trouble outside the two sessions before they had even finished discussing the ubiquitous power Internet of Things.

On the afternoon of March 9, when Dong Mingzhu accepted an exclusive interview with China Electric Power News at the Guangdong delegation’s residence, she probably did not expect that in the next few days, the share prices of ubiquitous power Internet of Things concept stocks would soar and all be in the green, triggering resonance in multiple sub-sectors such as the electrical sector, photovoltaics, wind power, charging piles, and electrical power grids, with nearly 100 power-related stocks hitting their daily limit.

Capital is profit-seeking, but it is also the most prudent and rational. What is the ubiquitous power Internet of Things that attracts capital? What does the "three types and two networks" as its main strategy include? To find the answer, we need to go back two months to the past.

Born with a jade in his mouth, he is ready to move forward. At the fourth session of the third staff representative meeting of State Grid Corporation of China and the 2019 work conference held on January 17, the company's new helmsman, Chairman and Party Secretary Kou Wei, first proposed the strategic goal of "three types and two networks, world-class". The "three types" are: hub type, platform type, and shared type, and the "two networks" are "strong smart grid" and "ubiquitous power Internet of Things".

Spring is such a season full of a sense of starting point, and the reform story of State Grid is on the way.

1. Reform of the “New Deal”

The headquarters of State Grid Corporation of China is located at No. 86 West Chang'an Avenue, Beijing. Standing on the roof and looking down, you can see Chang'an Avenue. Looking from east to west, you can clearly see the origin and destination of the reform and development of State Grid.

On the morning of December 13, 2018, Kou Wei took office as Chairman and Secretary of the Party Committee of State Grid Corporation of China. The new helmsman of State Grid Corporation of China, who has been in office for more than three months, has launched a series of reform "new policies" and has been dubbed "electricity reformer" by some media.

On December 12, 2018, the day before Kou Wei's appointment was announced, the leadership team of State Grid Corporation of China collectively visited the "Great Transformation - A Large Exhibition to Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening-up" at the National Museum, a highly symbolic place.

Then, from December 13 to 15, 2018, State Grid Corporation of China held a special seminar on "Emancipating the Mind, Reforming with Determination, and Promoting High-Quality Development of the Company and the Grid". Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the meeting focused on the fundamental requirement of high-quality development, and conducted in-depth discussions on major issues to further emancipate the mind and clarify ideas.

On December 15, 2018, Kou Wei emphasized in a signed article titled "Promoting the High-Quality Development of the State Grid with Supply-Side Structural Reform" published in China Electric Power News: "We must continue to hold high the banner of reform and implement it vigorously. We must push forward various reforms in a down-to-earth manner with greater efforts, more practical measures, and a tougher style, so as to solve problems, stimulate vitality, and release dividends."

Just 10 days later, State Grid Corporation of China launched 10 measures to comprehensively deepen reform, and the reform was implemented. These 10 measures include power grid construction, equipment manufacturing, pumped storage, electric vehicles, integrated energy services, information and communications, and other business areas, covering almost all business scopes of State Grid Corporation of China. This reform was evaluated as "unprecedented in its determination and scope, and full of sincerity." It can be called a self-revolution.

On January 17, at the 2019 work conference of State Grid Corporation of China, Kou Wei first proposed the new goal of "three types, two networks, and world-class". He also made it clear that "three types" enterprises are an important starting point for building world-class energy Internet enterprises. Based on the functional characteristics of the energy Internet and the responsibilities and missions of State Grid Corporation of China, the energy Internet enterprises we build must be modern enterprises with hub-type, platform-type, and sharing characteristics.

Kou Wei also proposed that it is necessary to build and operate the "two networks" well, which is an important material foundation for building a world-class energy Internet enterprise.

◆ On the one hand, we must persevere in building and operating a strong and intelligent power grid with UHV as the backbone grid and coordinated development of power grids at all levels;

◆ On the other hand, we must make full use of modern information technologies and advanced communication technologies such as mobile Internet and artificial intelligence to realize the interconnection of all things and human-computer interaction in all aspects of the power system, and create a ubiquitous power Internet of Things with comprehensive status perception, efficient information processing, and convenient and flexible application.

At this moment, the State Grid stands at the critical line of history with a new and open attitude. Looking back on the past, we can drink and sing with mixed feelings. Looking into the future, the waves are surging, and the movement of the sun and the moon seems to be coming out of it.

Decades ago, market and industry innovation could adopt the strategy of "import substitution" and follow-up. We "exchanged market for technology" and "exchanged time for space" to achieve overtaking through cost and scale advantages. However, today, State Grid Corporation of China has become a leader in the same industry worldwide. There is no longer a leader ahead, and the pressure of innovation has become a new challenge.

Thus, the new reform strategy of State Grid Corporation of China in the new era, "Three Types and Two Networks", came into being. It is both magnificent and full of unknowns, full of hope and confusion.

2. Big water means big fish

When the east is about to dawn, don't say you are leaving too early. When the floodgates of the market are opened, free water flows in, and everything becomes irreversible. Even if the water flows seem weak now, they are so unbridled. They bend when they encounter rocks, gather trickles into streams, and roar into momentum. Any development must follow the laws of its progress.

There must be big fish in big waters.

On March 8, Yang Hua, deputy to the National People's Congress and chairman of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, said in an interview with China Electric Power News that China National Offshore Oil Corporation and State Grid Corporation have always had extensive cooperation. From a broad perspective, as long as there is overlap in business and synergy can be generated, there are opportunities for cooperation in the development of ubiquitous power Internet of Things.

On March 9, Dong Mingzhu, deputy to the National People's Congress and chairman of Gree Electric Appliances Co., Ltd. of Zhuhai, said in an interview with a reporter from China Electric Power News that Gree Group and State Grid Corporation of China have been working closely in the research and development of the low-voltage DC ecosystem in Xiongan New Area.

On March 9, Lei Jun, deputy to the National People's Congress and chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Group, said in an interview with a reporter from China Electric Power News that 5G is a new engine of the digital economy and has a wide range of application scenarios in the Internet of Things. It is not limited to areas such as smartphones, and is especially deeply integrated with industries such as the Internet of Vehicles and smart homes.

On March 10, Zhou Hongyi, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, chairman and CEO of 360 Group, said in an interview with a reporter from China Electric Power News that the ubiquitous power Internet of Things coincides with the "360 Security Brain" strategy. 360 Group will focus on the security issues of industrial Internet. It is currently focusing on the layout of smart homes and has a technically advanced Internet of Vehicles team. There are multiple opportunities for cooperation with the ubiquitous power Internet of Things.

On March 10, Yang Yuanqing, deputy to the National People's Congress and chairman and CEO of Lenovo Group, said in an interview with a reporter from China Electric Power News that Lenovo Group and State Grid Corporation of China currently have several cooperation projects underway. The ubiquitous power Internet of Things and strong smart grid are currently under construction, and Lenovo Group will continue to seek cooperation opportunities.

Financial industry media paid particular attention to this emerging concept, citing the content of the China Electric Power News report, forming a high ground of public opinion and causing waves in the capital market. On March 11, nearly 100 concept stocks such as Guodian Nanjing Automation and Minjiang Hydropower rose to their daily limit. On March 12, the Ubiquitous Power Internet of Things Index continued to rise by 7.94%, and many stocks in the power grid industry chain closed up during the day, becoming the sector with the most daily limits that day.
