Berlin-based solar panel manufacturer Soltecture (formerly Sulfurcell) has teamed up with Vattenfall, Volvo and A-hus to set new standards for sustainable buildings such as the Energy-plus House.

The company's OneTonneLife project aims to reduce annual per capita carbon dioxide emissions. The "energy-enhanced house" is equipped with a thermal energy storage system and 106 German-made thin-film solar photovoltaic modules. The total rated power of these thin-film modules is 6.5kWp.

"Here, solar panels become the highlight of the building. Abandoning traditional building materials, solar panels are used on the exterior walls and roofs of buildings. This is the architecture of the future." Dr. Nikolaus Meyer, CEO and founder of Soltecture, explained. In fact, the electricity generated by the photovoltaic system far exceeds the needs of the family.

Soltecture said that when the project is completed in six months: households installing solar energy can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 7 tons per year, or 1.5 tons per person.

Swedish star architect Gert Windg?rdh explained: "These thin-film solar panels are not only highly productive, but also beautiful in appearance. Recently, Soltecture's thin-film panels won the 2011 Dwell Design Award in the Energy Category selected by the American Dwell Home Magazine.
