Texas Instruments has introduced 64 ultra-low-power microcontrollers, providing 8-bit developers with more options for supporting larger memory capacity and higher capacitive touch capabilities. The latest ultra-low-power MCUs further expand its MSP430™ MCU Value Line product lineup, bringing more features to low-cost applications such as consumer, lighting and touch panels.

Texas Instruments (TI) has announced 64 new ultra-low-power MSP430 Value Line microcontrollers (MCUs) that offer 16-bit performance at 8-bit prices, further demonstrating its commitment to providing more low-cost, high-quality options for 8-bit developers. The latest MSP430G2xx2 MCUs include integrated capacitive touch IO, which helps developers connect directly to capacitive touch panels without the need for additional hardware and components. In addition, the expansion of the MSP430 MCU Value Line also provides more packaging and memory options, giving developers greater design flexibility. The G2xx2 MCUs are strongly supported by TI LaunchPad development kits, free software, and a broad third-party network, making it easy to upgrade to 16-bit performance while maintaining the ultra-low price of the Value Line. Key features and benefits of the Value Line G2xx2 MCUs:
• Integrated capacitive touch IO eliminates the need for external passive components, reducing system-level BOM costs;
• Larger memory capacities of up to 8 KB flash and 256 B RAM support more advanced applications;
• More package options with higher pin counts (20-pin TSSOP and PDIP) provide greater flexibility in programming and form factor design;
• Optimized efficiency, supporting not only ultra-low standby power consumption of 0.4 microamps and wake-up time of less than 1 microsecond, but also peripherals such as 10-bit ADC, UART, comparator, and serial communication;
• Powerfully supported by a complete hardware and software development environment including Code Composer Studio™ IDE and IAR Embedded Workbench and LaunchPad development kit, providing software debuggers and compilers that can be downloaded for free;
• Code compatibility is achieved across the entire MSP430 platform, providing a convenient migration path for greater scalability.
