SiCrystal is a SiC (silicon carbide) wafer manufacturer headquartered in Nuremberg, Germany . After 25 years of development, it has expanded its business scope to the world and has more than 200 employees.

Although the company is not very large, its key technology is now widely used as SiC power semiconductors in electric vehicles around the world, and the company has become one of the leading companies in the SiC wafer market.

SiCrystal CEO Robert Eckstein reviewed the company's development history since its founding. He said, "The company has made great progress in the past 25 years, which is worth remembering and celebrating."

The company started producing SiC wafers in April 1997. The wafers are the basis of modern electronic components and look like "CDs without holes". SiC is a material that is as hard as diamond and has excellent heat resistance. Without these discs less than 1 mm thick, electric mobility and the digital society might not be possible.

Based on the research conducted at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in the early 1990s, SiCrystal AG (now SiCrystal GmbH) was founded in 1997. The initial SiC wafer development and sampling took place in Eschenfelden in the Upper Palatinate. In the early 2000s, the company moved to the city of Erlangen, and in 2009, it joined the Japanese electronics manufacturer ROHM Group, which was also a major turning point in SiCrystal's history. ROHM moved SiCrystal to Nuremberg as a wholly owned subsidiary to secure the space required for further development and production. This important decision was the driving force behind SiCrystal's large-scale production of wafers for the power electronics field, as it is today.

SiC products with broad prospects

After 25 years of development, SiC has become a product needed by the whole world, with huge market potential and promising prospects. Experts predict that the demand for SiC wafers will continue to grow in the future. To meet this demand, SiCrystal will continue to focus on improving production efficiency and work with its employees to expand production scale.
