Added more collaboration features as well as basic project management and security capabilities
Free utility simplifies and speeds up cable design, saving time and money
In August 2022, Pickering, a leading manufacturer of signal switches and simulation solutions for electronic testing and verification, announced a large-scale update of the Cable Design Tool (CDT). Pickering launched the Cable Design Tool (CDT) six years ago to help test engineers more easily select and create interconnect solutions for their test systems. The latest version of the Cable Design Tool is similar in look and feel to the old version of the tool, but the new version adds many new features designed based on user feedback.
The tool has added a new project management function, which is mainly used to classify design drafts and place them in project folders for easy management. Users can share these folders with other users, add attachments, view history records, etc. to facilitate communication. In addition, users can also access shared designs through the project management function and manage customized user design libraries.
Messages sent to other users or Pickering engineers can be sent and received directly in the new tool. This update makes the exchange of opinions easier, edits and modifications become traceable, and all discussions on a design are concentrated in one place, greatly improving work efficiency. The new tool also greatly simplifies the design submission process, allowing all parties to collaborate more efficiently. In addition, the new tool is also more secure. Unauthorized users can only browse but not edit the design, minimizing the probability of errors. You can also lock the design draft.
Keith Moore, CEO of Pickering, explains the new Cable Design Tool: “Choosing connectors and cables for a test system can be a complex process that requires a significant investment of time and money. Cable design can be the last difficult aspect to consider when developing a test system. However, this process requires careful thought and expertise, as proper cabling can make the difference between getting the product under test to market on time and as planned. Unless the test engineer is an expert in cabling, the extensive research required for wires and connectors can be daunting. With this in mind, Pickering has introduced the Cable Design Tool, which is an invaluable tool for test engineers designing custom cables for functional test systems. The new version of the tool adds more collaboration capabilities as well as essential project management and security features.”
Pickering’s new Cable Design Tool is now available online and is free to use.
Once the design is complete, the user can submit the entire design to Pickering's dedicated production connection products branch or any other cable supplier for production. In addition, Pickering's connection products branch can also provide a range of high-quality standard cables to support many different applications. In addition, Pickering also provides a standard three-year warranty service for all their interconnect products.
