SORALUCE helps Italian heavy precision parts manufacturer establish its market position
What is the maximum number of machining processes that can be performed on a machine tool in one setup?
At MPC in Italy, the answer is at least 5: milling, boring, turning, drilling and tapping, while ensuring high efficiency and high precision.
"By using SORALUCE multi-tasking machines, we have reduced production time by 20%, which is undoubtedly the key to improving the company's productivity and competitiveness," said Claudio Cervo, CEO of MPC Italy.
Troubles for Italian heavy parts manufacturer
Since its establishment in 1970, MPC, located in Italy, has been committed to the machining technology of precision parts. Since 1988, relying on its advantages in heavy precision machining technology applied to industries such as energy, shipbuilding, and steel, it has gradually occupied a place in the local and even the entire European market.
In order to further improve the processing efficiency and accuracy of heavy workpieces, the MPC technical team has been looking for a process solution that can reduce the number of workpiece setups as much as possible. Fewer clamping and less workpiece handling can shorten non-processing time and avoid unstable processing quality caused by deviation in clamping positioning accuracy.
The multi-tasking solutions of SORALUCE (the boring and milling brand of Danobat Group) perfectly meet the needs of MPC, and with years of expertise and experience in milling and turning technology, they ensure high precision and reliability in each machining function. "It has been proven how correct our strategic decision is," said Claudio Cervo, CEO of MPC.
SORALUCE multifunctional gantry machining center PXG-W19000
The PXG-W 19000 has a large machining range of 19,000mm longitudinal stroke, 8,700mm transverse stroke, 2,500mm vertical stroke and 5,000mm traverse stroke of the moving crossbeam, which can meet the machining needs of many large-sized parts, such as the engine block of energy and military equipment with an area of 12,000 x 6,000mm² processed by MPC, and the turbine housing used in the energy industry.
At the same time, as a complete multi-purpose solution of SORALUCE, the PXG-W 19000 machine tool can complete milling and turning processing in one clamping, bringing maximum processing efficiency. The machine tool is equipped with 10 freely replaceable processing attachment heads, including 7 milling heads and 3 turning heads, which can cover the processing of workpieces of various shapes and sizes. The strong versatility and flexibility bring the highest return to users.
Smart components and precision design are the key to high precision machine tools
The bed of the SORALUCE machine tool is a full cast iron structure, which has better stability and rigidity than traditional steel welding processes; in addition, the high torque in the slide directly drives the spindle motor, and the compact design greatly improves the processing reliability and makes the machine tool more precise.
SORALUCE is also a pioneer in the use of linear guide systems for heavy-cutting high-precision machines, which have strong advantages over traditional hydrostatic guides, avoiding temperature gradients caused by oil flow and ensuring better geometric stability of the machine. Combined with SORALUCE's unique DAS® (patented) intelligent active vibration reduction system, the machine can be easily recut and has high dynamics and stability during processing.
Powerful CNC system and digital innovation
The PXG-W 19000 is equipped with a Siemens 840D SL CNC system, which has strong versatility and is suitable for a variety of processing tasks such as milling, turning, boring, drilling, tapping, etc. The machine tool has a built-in tool library with a capacity of 180 tools and can automatically change tools, allowing MPC to switch more flexibly among various processing tasks.
PXG machines also embody the technical features of the Industry 4.0 concept: a professional and complete monitoring solution based on cloud computing. The monitoring solution integrates various applications, such as real-time machine status display, emails when problems occur, and reports on sensitive issues for users, such as production and processing processes, energy consumption, performance during processing cycles, and diagnosis of key signals related to equipment maintenance.
Today, SORALUCE has worked with MPC for more than 20 years, providing it with a total of 7 customized large-scale boring and milling machines according to different production needs. "SORALUCE is one of the most technologically advanced companies in Europe, especially in the field of energy machinery. Through these 7 machines, our company has undergone a qualitative change. Thanks to its customized solutions, our ability to cope with complex workpiece processing has become stronger." Mr. Claudio Cervo concluded.
