One household generates electricity, many households share it! Infineon Technologies and PIONIERKRAFT work together to achieve on-demand distribution of self-generated solar energy

To achieve Europe's (EU) ambitious climate goals, greenhouse gas emissions must be drastically reduced by 2030. To this end, around 28 million multi-family buildings, housing more than 80 million residents, must be equipped with photovoltaic systems. Despite EU support, there are still huge technical and regulatory barriers, especially for renewable energy supply of small multi-family buildings.

In cooperation with Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY), the Munich-based start-up PIONIERKRAFT has overcome these obstacles with the innovative hardware and service solution PIONIERKRAFTwerk (website only in German). With this technology, self-generated solar energy can be distributed among different households as needed. With support from Infineon, renewable energy can be shared with neighbors in a decentralized manner, without intermediate storage, economically and without the obstacles of hierarchical organizations.

The hardware of the participants is connected to the platform provided by PIONIERKRAFT via the Internet. From this, the power surplus of the generators can be determined, as well as the current demand of the neighbors, in order to control the power distribution process autonomously. As a result, residents who do not have a photovoltaic system can also use solar energy. In addition, the solution can also regulate the grid power flow without using the public grid.

The solution is realized by using Infineon devices, including discrete CoolSiC™ MOSFET IMBG120R030M1H and EiceDRIVER™ Compact gate driver 1ED3122MU12H in surface mount D2PAK-7L package. Working together, PIONIERKRAFTwerk enables efficient bidirectional power transmission. Thus, up to 2000 watts of power can be transmitted between households. In addition, CoolMOS™ P7 power MOSFET IPD70R1K4P7S ensures safe and reliable operation of the solution.

PIONIERKRAFTwerk increases the share of locally consumed photovoltaic electricity, making affordable renewable energy available to more people and increasing the profitability and efficiency of photovoltaic systems. In addition, by using this solution, it is possible to continue to use energy from the original system after the EEG photovoltaic subsidy ends.

About PIONIERKRAFT

PIONIERKRAFT was founded in 2019 by Andreas Eberhardt and Nicolas Schwaab with the goal of developing local energy sharing solutions. This month, the Munich-based start-up successfully entered the market. Since its founding, PIONIERKRAFT has won numerous innovation awards, making it one of the most successful German start-ups in 2020.
