Mouser Electronics, an authorized global distributor of electronic components focused on introducing new products, has released a new technical article, "Shrinking Industrial Designs with Highly Integrated Power Management ICs." The article explores the application of compact power management ICs (PMICs) in the industrial field and provides specific examples, focusing on practical solutions from Analog Devices and Coilcraft.

The rise of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has driven the need for efficient components that can make full use of limited factory floor space. Designers and engineers need to use the smallest ICs and passive components to overcome space constraints, and these components themselves need to optimize thermal and energy management properties to support ultra-high integration. In "Shrinking Industrial Designs with Highly Integrated Power Management ICs", Simon Duggleby presents a solution that combines Analog Devices PMICs and Coilcraft transformers to help reduce bill of materials (BOM) costs and save PCB space.

Analog Devices ADP1031 micropower management unit integrates power management and conversion, power isolation, and digital isolation into one IC, saving PCB space. The ADP1031 can be used with the AD5758 digital-to-analog converter. When these two devices are used together, they can meet the basic 300V isolation requirements and speed up the design and development process.

The article "Shrinking Industrial Designs with Highly Integrated Power Management ICs" also discusses transformers and inductors suitable for use with the ADP1031 device, specifically Coilcraft's YA9293 and WA8478 flyback transformers. Designed specifically for use with Analog Devices' micropower management units, both transformers have a 1:1 primary-to-secondary turns ratio, are suitable for 4.5 V to 60 V input voltages and 2250 VRMS isolation, and use creepage and clearance distances that meet basic isolation level requirements.
