From the perspective of extension:
(a) LED has a wider color gamut, and the color saturation can reach more than 105%, while CCFL is relatively narrow, and most of them can only reach about 70%;
(b) LED is very fast, which can help LCD eliminate the tailing phenomenon;
(c) A major defect of LCD is that the "black screen" is not black. If LED is used for dynamic control, this problem can be solved well;
(d) LED current can be adjusted;
(e) LED is a green and environmentally friendly product, does not contain mercury, is a solid light source, has good shock resistance, and is low-voltage safe. Therefore, LED is likely to be widely used in the future.
Regarding the lifespan, although the lifespan of LED is very long, if the user overheats, it will still lead to a decrease in service life. Now we adopt a dynamic method to control, so that the lifespan of LED can reach more than 100,000 hours, and different needs can be met according to different drivers. CCFL usually has a lifespan of only 20,000 to 50,000 hours.
In terms of the characteristics of CCFL and LED, the breakdown voltage and operating voltage of CCFL are relatively high, while the voltage of LED is very low. Therefore, the safety performance of LED is very good.
From their application, according to the current development, LED is constantly expanding to the application field of CCFL. You may know that more and more 7-inch monitors are using LED, and perhaps most 7-inch monitors will use LED within next year. The reason is that many 7-inch products are used in portable DVDs. Portable DVDs require relatively low power consumption. Some people may ask why CCFL is more efficient than LED, but consumes less power than LED. In fact, there are some tricks here. Because LED emits light in one direction, the contrast, color saturation and depth of the products made with it are much better than CCFL. Therefore, when using data measurement, although the brightness of LED is not as high as CCFL in the data, the visual effect is much better than CCFL. Therefore, the total cost of a 7-inch portable DVD using LED may drop by $1 or more, because it does not use a driver and saves a lot of batteries. I believe that in the near future, the scope of use of 7-inch and 10-inch will gradually expand.
