San Jose, California, May 21, 2024 – Power Integrations, a leading company in gate driver technology for medium- and high-voltage inverter applications, today announced the launch of the SCALE-iFlex™ XLT series of dual-channel plug-and-play gate drivers, which are suitable for single LV100 (Mitsubishi), XHPTM 2 (Infineon), HPnC (Fuji Electric) and equivalent semiconductor power modules with a withstand voltage of up to 2300V, which are suitable for energy storage systems and wind and photovoltaic renewable energy applications. This ultra-compact single-board driver can actively manage the temperature rise of the inverter module, thereby improving system utilization and simplifying the bill of materials (BOM) to improve the reliability of the inverter system.

Comments Thorsten Schmidt, product marketing manager at Power Integrations : “Building single-board gate drivers for these ‘new dual-channel’ IGBT modules is a real challenge. Our new SCALE-iFlex XLT gate drivers are compact and fit perfectly into the form factor of these modules, making it easy to mount the power module to the driver, giving inverter system designers a high degree of mechanical freedom.”

The SCALE-iFlex XLT dual-channel gate driver provides negative temperature coefficient (NTC) data information, that is, isolated temperature detection of the power module, thereby achieving accurate temperature rise management of the converter system. This enables system designers to optimize thermal design and increase the power of the converter by 25% to 30% based on the same hardware. The isolated NTC reading function also reduces the complexity of the inverter system hardware design, eliminating multiple cables, connectors and additional safety isolation circuits.

The new gate drivers use Power Integrations’ SCALE-2 chipset to minimize component count and improve reliability. The gate driver board still provides short-circuit protection to protect the power switching devices.
