Solvay launches new XencorTM XTreme for battery thermal runaway protection

Produced with partially bio-based ingredients and 100% renewable electricity

Solvay, a leading global supplier of specialty materials, has launched XencorTM XTreme, a new long glass fiber PPA solution for battery applications that require resistance to thermal runaway and propagation.

XencorTM​​​ ​This series of materials maintains excellent levels of electrical insulation after exposure to flame, helping to mitigate thermal runaway in batteries. What’s more, the material has a high glass transition temperature (Tg), ensuring the component remains dimensionally stable under battery operating conditions.

“XencorTM , safety and lightweighting are some of the biggest challenges,” said Brian Baleno, head of automotive marketing.

Key benefits of XencorTM XTreme include high stiffness, strength and impact resistance, best-in-class electrical insulation (relative tracking index >600 volts), and high dielectric strength.

The new XencorTM XTreme will be on display during the Fakuma show in Friedrichshafen, Germany, at Solvay's stand 4213 in Hall B4.
