There are many small spaces or special areas in lighting design, which can better reflect the quality of a project. These spaces are not only about considerations of schemes and effects, but also have higher requirements for nodes and technologies. I hope to have focused discussions on these spaces in the future.
With the continuous development of LED technology , swimming pool lighting has become more and more attractive and interesting. Because of the rich color temperature of LED light sources, the flexible control of RGB and even RGBW, plus its energy saving and long maintenance cycle, LED swimming pool lights are now popular.
So for today's swimming pool lighting, what should we consider when choosing lamps during lighting design?
Let’s discuss a few points below:
1. Surface material of lamps
The surface material of the lamp must be 1.4571 stainless steel. For saltier or warmer salt water, 1.4539 alloy steel is even required. The surface is electropolished for better corrosion resistance. In fact, contrary to common sense, stainless steel will also rust and discolor, especially if the surface treatment is not appropriate. The mounting parts and other parts of the lamp, such as wire connectors, also need to use suitable stainless steel.
2. The structure of the lamp
For the structure of the lamp, it is necessary to make the wire connection inside the lamp waterproof and to cut off water from entering the lamp when the wire is damaged. The gasket between the glass and the lamp body must be made of aging-resistant silicone material. LED electronic screens also need to be protected with conformal coatings.
3. Embedded parts shell of lamps
The embedded housing of the lamp should have a flexible pipe connected to the outside of the pool, and the connection between the wire and the pipe should be waterproof. If there is no waterproof connection between the wire and the pipe, siphoning may still occur even if the pipe is above the water pipe.
4. Selection of luminous flux of lamps
The choice of luminous flux for swimming pool lamps needs to be determined based on the brightness of the ambient light and the size of the swimming pool. The absorption rate of cold white light with a higher color temperature in water is lower than that of warm white light. This is because after one meter of light exposure in water, blue light is absorbed by 5%, green light by 3%, and red light by 16%. The penetration rate of light at other distances is shown in the table below:
Therefore, using cool white LED lamps has two advantages: higher LED light efficiency and lower absorption rate in water. For rectangular swimming pools of different widths, the approximate guide values for the required luminous flux of LED lamps are as follows:
The wires used must be special underwater wires that match the copper core diameter specified by the luminaire manufacturer. If the luminaire is not wired (in order to have more flexibility in wire length), please make sure to follow the manufacturer's recommendations to seal the connections. The same requirements apply to junction boxes and waterproof and sealed wiring systems. Ideally, the connection between the wires and the luminaire is completed at the luminaire factory, which requires the wire length to be determined when the luminaire is ordered. For the values listed above, if you want a more obvious lighting effect in the water, it is recommended that the illumination of the swimming pool environment be kept below 100lx. For rectangular swimming pools, if you want a more uniform illumination, it is recommended that the luminaires be installed on both sides of the long side, with a 90-degree beam angle and a spacing of about half the width of the pool.
Swimming pool maintenance often requires lowering the water level or emptying the water in the pool, but end users of swimming pools should be aware that many high-power LED lamps require water to help cool them.
In a word, designing a satisfactory swimming pool lighting requires very high requirements for lamps. It requires good lamp quality, and the luminous flux, size, color, color temperature, beam angle, etc. of the lamps need to be well matched.
