A cup of coffee or tea in the morning can help you stay awake for the whole morning. But have you ever thought about using it to charge your mobile phone? Epiphany onEPuck is a magical charger that can absorb energy from your drink. There is a Stirling engine (an external combustion engine) hidden in the base. Its driving force comes from thermal difference, which can eventually convert the heat energy in hot coffee into electrical energy; the good news is that it is compatible with both hot and cold drinks, so you don't have to hold a cup of hot tea for emergency charging in the summer.
The Stirling engine is nothing new, having been around since 1816. With modern technology and emerging materials, Epiphany was able to improve its thermodynamic efficiency, creating a new system that's easy to use on your desk. One side of the coaster is marked red, meaning it's used to absorb heat; coffee, tea, and soup can all be placed on this side to recharge your battery. Flip it over and the other side is blue, for cold drinks and the like; iced cola, orange juice, etc. can all bring you electricity.
When a hot drink is slowly cooling down, or a cold drink is slowly heating up, the Sterling engine is working silently. When the tea cools down and the ice melts, everything returns to normal temperature and the thermal difference disappears, then the charger will stop working. Enjoy a cup of piping hot coffee, and that time is enough to charge your mobile phone battery (the fake super-long-lasting mobile phone means you are bragging!). Anyway, this is a good backup energy source.
