Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance analog mixed-signal semiconductors, today announced the launch of the ISL9113, a family of boost converters with superior power density and efficiency. These new boost converters are ideal for products powered by a single lithium-ion battery and supporting USB OTG functionality.
The ISL9113 is a fully integrated synchronous boost converter that provides an industry-leading current density of 460mA/mm2 and is available in 5V fixed output voltage or adjustable output voltage versions. The internal integrated 1.3A synchronous MOSFET can provide 500mA output current at 5V output voltage when powered by a single lithium-ion battery. This 500mA boost circuit is often required in the design of smartphones or tablets to power peripheral devices in USB ports.
ISL9113 Features
1.8MHz switching frequency allows the use of smaller inductors and capacitors
Low internal resistance MOSFET provides up to 95% efficiency to maximize battery life
20uA quiescent current provides excellent efficiency at light load conditions
Available in a tiny 0.8mm x 1.36mm WLCSP package or 2mm x 2mm DFN package
ISL9111 and ISL9111A
The ISL9113 is the successor to Intersil's popular low input voltage, synchronous boost converters, the ISL9111 and ISL9111A. The ISL9111 and ISL9111A integrate a 1A synchronous MOSFET to deliver 100mA from a single alkaline battery. The ISL9111 and ISL9111A are ideal for boost power designs for rechargeable lithium batteries and general battery powered systems. The ISL9111 features an undervoltage lockout (UVLO) feature that internally disables the converter when the input voltage drops below 0.7V to prevent over discharge of the battery. The ISL9111A maximizes runtime for non-rechargeable general batteries by disabling this feature.
Pricing and Availability
The ISL9113 is available now in a compact 2mm x 2mm 8-pin DFN package and a 0.8mm x 1.36mm 6-bump WLSCP package. Pricing starts at $1.39 each in 6,000-unit quantities. The ISL9111 and ISL9111A are available in a 6-pin SOT-23 package and start at $1.20 each in 3,000-unit quantities.
