Chip Description:
GEC8310 is a driver for single or multiple LEDs as LCD backlight, with an operating input voltage range of 0.85V to 8V. This means that this chip can use a single Ni-Cr, NiMH or alkaline battery, or multiple or lithium-ion batteries. GEC8310 has a standby control terminal. In standby mode, the chip current is less than 5uA. The driver circuit composed of this chip and an external transistor can generate continuous power output and can drive single or multiple LEDs in a large operating voltage range. Typical applications are 1W and 3W white light LED drivers. The driver circuit starts under full load and can still work normally when the input voltage drops to 0.85V. The circuit configuration can be adjusted according to the battery life and the brightness of the diode. Based on the switching power supply principle of the chip, the chip has high working efficiency and is an ideal choice for LED drivers for LCD backlight applications in digital cameras and PDAs.
GEC8310 is a PFM-controlled DCDC control chip that can provide up to 2.7mA base drive current for peripheral power transistors to build a high-efficiency boost DCDC circuit.
The chip can still start normally under full load and power supply voltage as low as 0.85V. The chip has multiple solutions to ensure efficiency optimization over a wide range of load current changes. Users can also choose solutions such as maximum battery life or maximum LED brightness.
This chip adopts SOT23-5 package, and with a small number of peripheral devices, it can form a high-efficiency, small-size, and ultra-cost-effective LED backlight system solution.

Typical application 1 (LCD backlight circuit solution)
This is a typical LCD backlight application. The input voltage is usually the main system power supply, with a typical value of 3.3V or 5V. The LEDs are connected in series to make the light uniform. The driving current of the LED can be either pulse or DC. The size of the driving current of the LED can be set by the sense resistor. As designed in the reference circuit, adding a Schottky diode and a capacitor in the output circuit can obtain a DC driving current .
Typical application 2 (maximum brightness solution)
The circuit provides continuous drive current for a single LED by rectifying and buffering the DC-DC output, thereby ensuring maximum LED brightness.
Typical Application 3 (Maximum Battery Life Scenario)
In order to improve efficiency and maximize battery life, the LED driving current is pulse current and the rectification circuit is removed.
The so-called pulse current is that there is no output capacitor, and the LED only has driving current when the switch tube is turned off, and does not work when the switch tube is turned on. Because the inductor current is completely used to drive the LED, the peak current of the inductor is relatively small at this time.
