A new type of LED lamp has been successfully developed by the U.S. Department of Energy and the University of Maryland.
This LED lamp has 1500 lumens and can release light equivalent to a 100-watt halogen lamp, and consumes only 1/3 of the energy. What technology does it rely on to achieve such lighting efficiency? Answer: High-speed air jet technology originally used in GE aircraft engines.
Although everyone agrees that LEDs are superior in terms of energy and lifespan, there are still critics who believe that LED lights are not bright enough. This is closely related to the heat dissipation problem of general LEDs. Inside this LED light, there are two small bellows-like devices that drive high-speed air jets, and the airflow generated hits the built-in heat sink to achieve a cooling effect. They inhale air and then eject it from the same opening at a faster speed, which actually promotes high-speed air flow through expansion and contraction. This idea comes from the design principle of the surface airflow control system used by GE jet engines.
Although this innovation is not as groundbreaking as in the traditional sense, this cross-domain application innovation has undoubtedly become the most economical and least risky innovation path of this era.
