Advantages of DC UPS power supply:
There are many advantages of DC UPS power supply. The first is energy saving. DC UPS simplifies the double conversion (AC-DC-pin) of ordinary UPS into AC-DC single conversion, which can theoretically reduce energy consumption by half. Another advantage is high reliability. DC UPS can be powered directly by batteries, reducing the intermediate link of the inverter, which can theoretically improve reliability by an order of magnitude. The next advantage is reducing the size and cost of UPS. DC UPS omits the inverter and bypass device, so the size and cost are of course reduced.
The use of DC UPS actually solves many academic disputes in the current UPS industry, such as the question of which is better, high-frequency or industrial frequency, and which is better, tower or modular. DC UPS has no frequency problem, so there is no high-frequency or industrial frequency problem. DC UPS must be modular, but the synchronization and circulation problems of modular UPS basically do not exist on DC UPS. There is no technical bottleneck for unlimited parallel connection of DC machines, which is feasible at least in theory.
The actual application of DC UPS has made great progress. In developed countries abroad, large-scale DC power supply has been successfully adopted in computer rooms. In my country, through the continuous exploration of scientists and engineering and technical personnel, the pilot work has also achieved great success.
The prospect of DC UPS power supply is infinite. The main problems encountered in the current promotion are:
① People’s concept problem. Most people still believe that DC power supply requires dedicated DC IT equipment. Practice has proved that as long as the appropriate DC voltage is selected, most existing IT equipment can run stably in a DC environment without any modification.
②Standards and specifications. Without corresponding standards and specifications, DC power supply can only remain in the experimental and pilot stage, and standardized design and construction transformation cannot be carried out, and application work is difficult to promote.
③Product quality and brand issues. Having technical advantages does not mean having product advantages. However, if DC UPS products are launched in a rush without quality assurance, people will easily confuse product problems with technical problems, thereby weakening the technical advantages of DC power supply and hindering the promotion of DC power supply.
The development of technology is a spiral. DC power supply technology currently has great technical advantages over AC, but this is not static. Just like modular UPS, a few years ago, because it could maintain a very high load rate, it had a great technical advantage over tower UPS in terms of power efficiency. However, with the development of UPS sleep technology, the load rate of tower UPS can also be maintained at a very high level, and the efficiency advantage of modular UPS is no longer obvious. DC power supply technology should seize the great development opportunity of national energy conservation and low-carbon emission reduction, take advantage of insufficient customer service, and accelerate development.
