FAN302HL is a highly integrated PWM controller with several features that enhance the performance of general flyback converters, such as an integrated 500V JFET that cuts off the current path after the device is turned on to reduce startup losses. Its patented constant current control topology simplifies circuit design and eliminates the need for secondary-side constant current feedback circuits, providing important advantages in battery charger applications.
The FAN302HL also has several protection features, including cycle-by-cycle current limiting to ensure a fixed peak current limit level, even in the event of a short circuit. In addition, the device clamps the gate output voltage at 15V to protect the power MOSFET from damage when the gate-source voltage is too high.
FAN302HL does not require an external secondary-side overvoltage protection (OVP) circuit. If either the VS pin OVP function or the internal overtemperature protection function is triggered, the device enters a latching mode until the AC power is disconnected, thus eliminating the need for secondary-side OVP components and enhancing VO protection (<6V).
