As light emitting diode (LED) technology has improved over the last few years, the use of this technology as an energy-efficient light source has become more common in recent years. Riester's ri-scope® L and e-scope® series of otoscopes and ophthalmoscopes now use LED light, providing clearer images and longer life with whiter light and excellent energy efficiency. Riester's ri-former modular workstation series of otoscopes also offers LED lighting, and fully combines modular options with cost savings by eliminating the need for batteries.
Riester uses state-of-the-art technology, as well as other energy efficiency improvements including durable lithium-ion batteries and automatic power management, to provide doctors and nurses with a range of ENT instruments that provide higher quality light over a longer lifespan. For example, the ri-scope® L series LED lamps provide at least 20,000 hours of illumination at 17,500 lux. This is a significant advantage over xenon and halogen bulbs, which can only provide illumination for 20 to 30 hours.
In addition to the direct benefits to users, Riester is pleased to offer a product that is more environmentally friendly than traditional bulbs by reducing instrument energy consumption, reducing maintenance requirements, and increasing battery life, which means less waste from product clean-up and replacement. The life of e-scope® alkaline batteries and ri-scipe® lithium batteries for LED lighting is up to 50 hours, significantly longer than traditional bulbs.
