Are you still searching for information on your phone? In the future, all of this will become redundant. Scientists are developing a new type of contact lens technology that can project information directly onto the human retina. Isn't that cool?
Recently, an international team of engineers has successfully developed a prototype, which is a specially designed contact lens. The team tried to embed an LED light made of sapphire into the contact lens, and built a receiving antenna (antenna), and used a circuit (IC) to connect the antenna and the LED light (as shown in the lower right picture). Through remote transmission, the team has been able to control each pixel on the LED light . However, our eyes need to place the observed object at a certain distance to effectively focus on it so that we can see the object clearly.
Engineers quickly figured out a way to deal with this problem: they installed an extra lens in it and successfully achieved the focus of the image. Once the entire device is developed, engineers will start the testing phase. The entire system has been developed and tested on rabbits and finally succeeded, proving that it is effective and safe. Once this device is successfully developed and put into use, it will have almost the same function as Schwarzenegger's eyes in the movie Terminator. Imagine that you will be able to read text and check emails directly on your eyes, not to mention the impact this technology will have on the navigation driving and gaming industries.
Despite this, the development of this device is still in the development stage, and there are still many shortcomings and problems that need to be solved. Since the lenses of contact lenses are made of hard plastic, they can only be worn for a few minutes before being removed because they block air circulation on the surface of the eye. And when in use, the remote control device must be effective at a very close distance. The researchers said that they may still be at least 10 years away from the final completion of the development, but they believe that this period of time will be more than enough to solve these problems. In addition to solving the remote control and focusing problems, they also hope to improve the material used in contact lenses to make the glasses softer and more comfortable to wear.
