Integrating display screens with the body is no longer a scene from science fiction movies. Existing technology has begun to prepare for the integration of LED displays with contact lenses, and it is expected to reach the practical stage soon. The current research and development results are to integrate microcircuits into contact lenses to monitor the health of the body. Professor Babak Parviz from the University of Washington has developed a contact lens with a glucose detection device. In this contact lens, a dedicated sensor can detect the glucose content in tears, and then control the radio frequency antenna through a microchip to transmit the results to related equipment.

There is also a Swedish company Sensimed working on a similar project, but their main goal is to monitor glaucoma. This pair of glasses can develop a medical plan by monitoring changes in intraocular pressure, and the lenses are disposable.
In addition to medical purposes, Professor Babak Parviz's laboratory is also trying to develop contact-type LED light sources. The development of red and blue LEDs has been completed to support 3D imaging. When the green LED is successfully developed, the contact lens will be able to completely become a display screen.

If contact lenses have 3D imaging capabilities, augmented reality will have unprecedented development opportunities. By connecting to portable devices and transmitting data, people will be able to add annotations to the real world seen by the human eye, adding a virtual image layer similar to the concept of layers, thereby entering a completely augmented reality world.
