When we purchase infrared products, detector resolution is a key parameter. So what is the resolution of infrared detectors? It plays a pivotal role in the infrared thermal imaging industry chain.
The resolution of the infrared detector is the number of thermal imaging pixels, which is the same principle as our visible light camera. The higher the resolution, the more observation points and temperature measurement points there are, and smaller targets can be observed and measured at longer distances. Generally, the resolutions that infrared thermal imaging can provide include 120x90, 256x192, 384x288, 640x512, 800x600, 1280x1024, etc. The higher the resolution, the higher the cost of the corresponding product.
At the same time, in the field of infrared thermal imaging, there are some professional terms representing image resolution, such as VGA, QVGA, etc.
VGA refers to infrared products with 640x512 resolution;
SVGA usually refers to products with 800x600 resolution;
QVGA refers to products with 320x240 resolution;
HD refers to high-definition infrared resolution, usually a product with 1280x1024 resolution.
How to choose the appropriate detector resolution for different scenarios? Using larger area detectors enables:
Increase the effective pixels and present more details;
Obtain a wider field of view, and the coverage area is expanded under the same focal length lens;
Make the video output present better visual effects.
