Keysight Technologies helps MediaTek validate its 5G devices with MIMO antenna technology over-the-air (OTA)

Advanced 5G channel emulation solution accelerates RF performance verification

Keysight Technologies, Inc., a leader in advanced design and verification solutions designed to accelerate innovation and create a secure and connected world, announced today that MediaTek has selected its integrated 5G NR device test solution to verify the radio frequency (RF) performance of 5G devices equipped with MIMO and massive MIMO antenna technologies in an OTA (Over-The-Air) lab.

Keysight's 5G NR device test solutions enable MediaTek to design, develop and validate 5G modem platforms that can be used to establish reliable, high-performance connections in wireless devices that transmit high data rates. Device manufacturers choose MediaTek's advanced 5G modem technology to manufacture smartphones, personal computers (PCs), routers, mobile hotspots and fixed wireless access (FWA) products.

"Keysight is pleased to expand MediaTek's lab-based testing capabilities with software-centric test tools, enabling the company to stay at the forefront of 5G innovation and technology development," said Mark Wallace, senior vice president of global sales at Keysight Technologies. "Comprehensive MIMO test capabilities and timely support for 5G NR 3GPP Release 16 test cases enable MediaTek to quickly introduce chipsets for advanced 5G applications such as gaming, multimedia and HD video streaming."

"MediaTek has been working with Keysight to help accelerate our technology advancements to support our broad 5G offerings," said Dr. Heqi Huang, general manager of MediaTek's Wireless Communications System Development Unit. "Keysight's platform enables MediaTek to develop industry-leading 5G modem platforms, which in turn drives a growing ecosystem of 5G device innovators."

MediaTek uses Keysight's network emulation solutions to accurately simulate real-world wireless channel conditions and automatically verify that 5G end-point devices comply with the latest specifications set by standards organizations, including 3GPP, CTIA and China Communications Standards Association (CCSA). The toolset also supports the Carrier Acceptance Test (CAT) program mandated by major mobile operators, including China Mobile.

Keysight Technologies has created an integrated solution for lab-based MIMO OTA testing by combining the company’s channel emulators, wireless propagation channel modeling software and compact antenna test chambers (CATRs) .

Keysight and MediaTek collaborated to achieve multiple industry milestones, including validating the first 5G mmWave modem and establishing a 5G connection based on 3GPP Rel-16 specifications.
