Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, selects Keysight test solutions to advance terahertz-based 6G technology
Helping renowned research universities successfully verify optoelectronic hybrid methods that support TB-level data rates
Keysight Technologies, Inc., a provider of advanced design and verification solutions that accelerate innovation to create a secure and connected world, announced today that Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore has selected the company’s software-centric test and measurement solutions to advance terahertz-based 6G technology.
NTU Singapore, a renowned research university, has selected Keysight's solutions to verify on-chip terahertz optoelectronic devices such as transceivers. The university has developed a unique optoelectronic hybrid approach using terahertz frequencies to design mobile communication devices that operate efficiently at data rates up to several terabits per second (Tbps) . Many emerging applications and future 6G use cases such as augmented reality, holographic communications and mobile edge computing rely on such high data rates.
"Keysight is pleased to provide NTU with its 6G test platform to help their TeraX lab accurately analyze the unknown frontiers of electronic and photonic technologies, thereby contributing to 6G technology breakthroughs," said Boon Juan Tan, vice president and general manager of Keysight's General Electronic Measurement Solutions (GEMS) business unit. "Keysight is collaborating with industry pioneers like NTU to enable high-speed data transmission links to meet the needs of a wide range of 6G applications for consumers, enterprises and governments."
Keysight's integrated hardware and software tools have advanced measurement performance for 6G technology, enabling NTU to accurately characterize complex transceiver modules. Keysight combines its high-speed arbitrary waveform generator (AWG), optical modulation analyzer with highly detectable symbol rate, network analyzer (PNA), PSG analog signal generator with compact upconverters and downconverters produced by Virginia Diodes Inc. (VDI) and Keysight PathWave vector signal analysis software to create a one-stop solution for comprehensive testing and verification of on-chip terahertz optoelectronic devices.
"As one of the world's leading universities, NTU is pleased to collaborate with Keysight to explore new designs for 6G and other emerging technologies," said Dr. Ranjan Singh, Associate Professor at the Department of Physics and Applied Physics at NTU. "Keysight helps us realize innovations that will enhance human connections, promote health and safety, and increase practical efficiencies across a wide range of industries."
Keysight Technologies has the key functional blocks needed to make 6G a reality. Keysight Technologies' multidisciplinary capabilities can provide development support for terabit communication speeds, artificial intelligence (AI), cloud-native IoT applications, non-terrestrial networks, time-sensitive networks (TSN), and new end-to-end security paradigms. Keysight Technologies is working closely with global leaders in the 6G field such as NTU to actively promote research and development work such as trials and proof of concepts (PoC).
