The withstand voltage tester can be called an electrical insulation strength tester, a dielectric strength tester, etc. according to its function. The withstand voltage test refers to the test of the withstand voltage ability of various electrical devices, insulating materials and insulating structures.
The process of applying high voltage to insulating materials or insulating structures without destroying the performance of insulating materials is called withstand voltage test. Generally speaking, the main purpose of withstand voltage test is to check the ability of insulation to withstand working voltage or overvoltage, and then to check whether the insulation performance of product equipment meets safety standards. The basic principle of withstand voltage test: a voltage higher than normal operation is applied to the insulator of the device under test for a specified period of time. If the insulation between them is good enough, the voltage applied will only produce a small leakage current. If the leakage current of the insulator of a device under test remains within the specified range within the specified time, it can be determined that the device under test can operate safely under normal operating conditions. When conducting withstand voltage test, the measurement standards are different for different test products with different technical specifications. For general devices under test, withstand voltage test is to measure the leakage current value between the live wire and the casing. The basic rule is: twice the working voltage of the object under test plus 1000V as the standard voltage of the test. The test voltage of some products may be higher than this specified value. According to the provisions of IEC61010, the test voltage must be gradually increased to the required test voltage value (such as 5kV, etc.) within 5s, and the test voltage value must be stably applied to the insulator under test for no less than 5s. At this time, the leakage current value of the measured circuit is compared with the leakage current threshold specified in the standard to determine whether the insulation performance of the tested product meets the standard. After the test, the test voltage must be gradually reduced to zero within the specified time.
