Samsung Selects Keysight Technologies’ 5G Test Platform to Validate Modems to Latest 5G NR Standards

Beijing, June 28, 2021 - Keysight Technologies, Inc. announced that its 5G test platform has been selected by Samsung Electronics' System LSI business to establish a 5G data call based on 3GPP Rel-16. Samsung Electronics is a global leader in semiconductor components and 5G technology. Keysight Technologies provides advanced design and verification solutions designed to accelerate innovation and create a secure and connected world.

Samsung selected Keysight's 5G network emulation solution to successfully demonstrate a data link based on the 3GPP Rel-16 specification for the 5G NR standard. Completed in 2020, Rel-16 brings many enhancements to 5G NR deployments, including improved spectrum utilization, reduced network latency, and enhanced connection reliability. Such improvements are critical for machine-to-machine (M2M) communications in industrial automation and self-driving cars, and also improve operator efficiency.

"We are pleased to support Samsung in achieving its 5G technology strategy by providing a software-based chipset and device all-in-one test solution to validate new designs across the entire protocol stack in accordance with the latest 3GPP specifications," said Peng Cao, vice president and general manager of Keysight's Wireless Test Group. "Keysight is committed to providing test platforms to 5G industry leaders such as Samsung to help them bring 5G devices and networks to market as quickly as possible."

Samsung uses Keysight's 5G protocol development toolset and test applications to validate its Exynos modem chipset, which is used by many global device manufacturers to create new 5G commercial products. Keysight's toolset enables Samsung to perform 3GPP Rel-16 physical layer interoperability development tests (IODT) in sub-7 GHz (FR1) and mmWave (FR2) bands, validate IODT performance, and verify NR and NR dual connectivity (NRDC) functionality.

"We are very pleased to work with a key partner such as Keysight, whose test tools have been proven in a global ecosystem of device manufacturers to reliably verify new designs," said Jonghan Kim, vice president of protocol development at the System LSI Business Unit at Samsung Electronics. "Keysight's comprehensive 5G test tools will enable us to quickly develop 5G solutions to successfully enter the market and create exciting new mobile experiences."

Keysight and Samsung have collaborated for more than a decade and have achieved multiple milestones together during that time, including the successful validation of Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) technology for 5G modems.
