The handheld laser rangefinder is a commonly used optical instrument. As a rangefinder, compared with ordinary rangefinders, it has unique functions and characteristics.

The application of DISTO in mines mainly utilizes the combination of DISTO and domestic theodolites to form a prismless semi-station, which is used in underground mining areas to measure point positions, cross-section heights, mining area volumes, etc.

Before a certain unit purchased the DISTO handheld distance meter, what was the original underground measurement method? According to a person in charge of the measurement unit, they used a theodolite, a tape measure, a fishing rod, and a domestic pulse distance meter to measure the underground mining area. The main disadvantages of this method are:

  1. Low measurement accuracy. There is a set of data to prove this: at the end of 1998, two surveying teams jointly measured the volume of a stope. The result was 55,000 cubic meters for one team and 68,000 cubic meters for the other team. The measurement values varied greatly after each measurement, so they dared not continue to measure.

  2. Slow speed and low efficiency. The working environment underground cannot be compared with the ground environment. Due to the poor underground conditions, dim light, low safety factor and other limitations, the measurement speed is very slow and the efficiency is very low. Often, one measurement point takes several times more than the usual measurement time.

  3. Although domestic pulse handheld rangefinders can also measure distances, people cannot see the location of the target point because it uses ultrasonic ranging. In addition, the measuring range is too short and the accuracy is low, which greatly limits its scope of use.

  Changes after using DISTO:

In underground measurement, the surveyor only needs to set up a theodolite and a rangefinder, and there is no need for people to stand at the target point. The measurement task can be completed smoothly, comprehensively and relatively accurately in a short time, overcoming the previous shortcomings of slow speed, low efficiency and poor accuracy. In particular, the advantage of the handheld laser rangefinder in underground measurement that the red laser point can be seen is particularly praised by the surveyor. In underground measurement, the handheld laser rangefinder can also be used alone, which is quite convenient. It can also store a large amount of measurement data without the need for underground measurement records. In addition to being convenient for use underground, the handheld laser rangefinder can also be used for open-pit slope measurement and layout.
